SRH skipper Pat Cummins led the charge with the ball as Sunrisers Hyderabad restricted Delhi Capitals to just 133 runs in the 55th match of the IPL 2025 on Monday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. At one stage, it didn’t look like Delhi would cross the 100-run mark. However, a 66-run partnership between Ashutosh Sharma (41 off 26) and Tristan Stubs (41 off 36) helped the team reach a respectable score on the board.

SRH needed a win to keep their slender hopes alive for the playoff qualification. But, unfortunately, rain intervened after the first innings and it resulted in a washout. Delhi would be happy to earn a point but the road ahead isn’t too easy.

Nevertheless, here’s a look at three talking points from SRH vs DC IPL 2025 clash:

1.  Pat Cummins takes the new ball and makes an impact

For the first time, SRH skipper Pat Cummins opened the bowling in the powerplay and he struck on the first ball of the innings. It was a typical back-a-length delivery that seamed away with Karun Nair edging the ball to the keeper. That was some extra bounce off the surface and Cummins made great use of that.  He consistently hit the hard lengths and didn’t allow DC openers to get going.

As only 6 runs came off the first two overs, Du Plessis stepped out to swat Cummins on the leg side in the third over but ended up having a bottom edge through to the keeper. After picking two wickets in his first two overs, Cummins bowled one in the powerplay and got another breakthrough. He bowled a length ball to Abhishek Porel and found a leading edge and Ishan Kishan did the rest. Pat Cummins was on the money right from ball one and finished an outstanding bowling spell of 3 for 19 in four overs.

At the end of the powerplay, DC were in all sorts of trouble at 26 for 4. Given that Mohammed Shami wasn’t in the best of form, Cummins, perhaps, should have taken the new ball a bit earlier in the tournament. It’s a decision he might reflect on, especially considering how well he bowled today.

2. SRH knocked out of the playoff race

Rain poured incessantly following Delhi Capitals’ innings, preventing the game from progressing further. The match, as a result, was abandoned and both teams shared a point. Sunrisers Hyderabad needed a win and those two points could have helped them stay alive in the race for the playoffs in IPL 2025

However, a rain-curtailed game ruined their slender hopes. After 11 matches, SRH are knocked out with three wins and seven points to their name. They have three games remaining and the franchise might look to try out some fresh faces in these encounters.

3. Batting woes leave Delhi Capitals on the brink of elimination

Four wins on the trot gave Delhi Capitals a positive start in the Indian Premier League 2025. But they couldn’t quite carry forward the momentum, thereafter, and now faces the threat of elimination. In their last five matches, they won only one game against Lucknow Super Giants. Needless to say, it’s their batting that has disappointed the most. Inconsistent run from the top order, comprising KL Rahul, Karun Nair, and Faf du Plessis takes a major chunk of blame for their inconsistent run.

They were bowled out for just 133 today and would be delighted to have got a point, thanks to rain. Given that four teams already have 14 points each, Delhi need to ensure that they win at least two games out of their next three.
