Three talking points from PBKS vs DC IPL 2025 clash
Only four games are left in the IPL 2025 league stage, but the top two teams have still not been confirmed. Punjab Kings had the chance to seal a top-two finish but Delhi Capitals handed them a six-wicket defeat at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday. Despite posting a formidable score of 206 runs, Shreyas Iyer and Co. failed to defend it.

Also, this means that they stay at number two on the ladder with one game left to be played against Mumbai Indians. Delhi Capitals on the other hand ended their IPL 2025 campaign with a stunning victory. They broke their losing streak and finished at fifth place with seven wins in 14 games.
Letโs take a look at three talking points from the game:
- Punjab Kings' batting is a force to be reckoned with
Unlike Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings havenโt relied only on their openers to post big totals. Their openers are in pristine form but the middle-order and finishers are doing the job brilliantly. Today, both the openers got out early but still, they managed to reach 200-plus total and this isnโt the first time they have done that.
Despite wickets falling, Punjab continued to score at a healthy run rate and never let the foot off the pedal. Josh Inglis counter-attacked with a brilliant 32 off 12 after Priyansh Arya got out early, while skipper Shreyas Iyer continued his good form. He scored another half-century, which is a big positive going into the playoff.
In-form Shashank Singh and Nehal Wadhera couldnโt make a significant contribution, but it was Marcus Stoinis, who did the damage towards the end. He played another fine knock of 44 off 16 balls, helping his team post a pretty good score of 206 for 8 at the end of the first innings. Although, it didn't prove enough in the end.
2. Delhi end their campaign with a stunning run-chase
The kind of form Delhi Capitals were in, not a lot of people would have backed them to chase down a 207-run target. But they were up for the challenge right from the start. KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis ensured the team got to a quickfire start as Delhi reached the 50-run mark in five overs. Rahul was looking solid at the crease. He had hit six fours and a six en route to his 35 off 20 balls. But his 21st ball led him to mistime one straight to the man at mid-off. Delhi, however, didnโt lose the momentum. Faf du Plessis also got out in the next over but Karun Nair counter-attacked brilliantly.

He took apart Praveen Dubey in the 11th over by smashing him for four consecutive fours. He, along with Sameer Rizvi, were taking the game away from Punjab but Harpreet Brar managed to send Nair (44 off 27) back in the 15th over. Punjab had the chance to come back into the game at that point but Sameer Rizvi finally rose to the occasion. The former CSK batter showed his class as he smashed an unbeaten 58 off just 25 balls to guide his team home in 19.3 overs.
3. Delhi Capitals dropped 24 catches in IPL 2025
One of the biggest reasons Delhi failed to reach the playoffs has been their lackluster fielding. DC dropped 24 catches in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League and finished the season with the lowest catching efficiency of 67.1%.
In todayโs game, plenty of catches were dropped by the Capitals, though it didnโt affect the overall result. Josh Inglis was dropped twice early in the innings. Later, Shreyas Iyer was dropped by Kuldeep Yadav in the 14th over, and Mukesh Kumar put down a sitter in the 18th over. Mustafizur and Faf du Plessis also dropped tough chances. Delhi will look to address this as they close out their season with a win.
