Three talking points from KKR vs GT IPL 2025 Match
A clinical performance from Gujarat Titans has helped them beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 39 runs at the Eden Gardens Stadium, Kolkata on Monday. Riding on another sensational opening partnership between Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans posted a formidable score of 198 runs on the board. It was followed by an outstanding bowling display from GT, restricting the hosts to just 159 for 8 in the second innings. Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, consolidated their position at the top of the table with six wins now in eight games, Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, suffered their fifth loss this season.
Here’s a look at three talking points from KKR vs GT IPL 2025 Match:
- Another day, another top show from GT’s top-three
The opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan continue to impress one and all with their incredible batting display. It has become really difficult for the opposition teams to break GT’s opening stand. In the last game against DC, Shubman Gill, unfortunately, got run out but that didn't happen this time around. KKR didn’t allow them to free their arms too easily early on as GT only managed 45 runs in the first six overs- their lowest total in powerplay this season. However, Shubman Gill then picked up the pace, smashing 17 runs in the 7th over.

Sudarsan too complemented him brilliantly as boundaries started to come at a quick pace, thereby, reaching 89 after 10 overs. Once again, the duo ensured that there were fewer dot balls and most of the shots were along the ground- something which has allowed them to stitch big partnerships. Gill reached his half-century in 34 balls, while Sai Sudharsan brought up his fifth half-century in 33 balls. The duo put on their second hundred-run partnership in IPL 2025 and now has 448 runs together in eight games at an average of 56.
Andre Russell eventually broke the partnership in the 13th over but there was no respite even after that. After facing a dot ball in the same over, Jos Buttler smashed Russell for a hat-trick of fours to kick-start his innings. Gill departed after scoring a wonderful knock of 90 off 55 but Buttler stayed till the end and helped Gujarat Titans post a formidable score of 198 at the end of 20 overs. The former English skipper continued his top form, playing an unbeaten knock of 41 off just 23 balls, including eight fours.
2. KKR batters once again fail to produce a fight
Sunil Narine’s early departure has been a big reason behind KKR’s downfall. Once again, he got out early today and this is the fourth time in seven innings he has gotten out in the powerplay. R Gurbaz (1) got the chance but was out leg-before in the very first over of the innings. KKR had lost two wickets for just 45 runs in the first six overs.
Rahane tried to produce a fight but there was no support whatsoever from the other end. Venkatesh Iyer(14) failed to take on the spinners as he endured another dismal outing with the bat. Andre Russell threatened to produce a blinder as he struck three fours and a six during his 15-ball 21 but Rashid Khan once again got the better of him. Ajinkya Rahane was the highest run-getter for the side with 50 off 36 balls but barring that, there was no other substantial contribution from the rest of the batters.
3. Rashid Khan’s return to form makes Gujarat Titans a team to beat

Keeping his poor run this season past him, Rashid Khan returned with a sensational bowling performance against KKR on Monday. He was brilliant right from the first ball, bowling quicker and at the stumps. He picked two crucial wickets of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell while giving away just 25 runs in his four overs. Prasidh Krishna, once again was brilliant as he delivered a pivotal spell of 2 for 25. The likes of Siraj, Sai Kishore, and Washington Sundar came up with decent spells too, picking one wicket apiece.
