Kolkata Knight Riders finally bagged a win on Monday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium after three unsuccessful games in the Indian Premier League 2025. KKR beat Delhi Capitals by 14 runs and kept themselves well and truly alive for the playoff qualification. Notably, this is Delhi Capitals’ third loss in four games at home, this season. Batting first, KKR posted a formidable score of 204 on the board before restricting Delhi Capitals to 190 in the second innings. Despite the loss, Delhi are still sitting at fourth on the table with 12 points in 10 games. Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, have now nine points in as many games.

Here’s a look at three talking points from DC vs KKR IPL 2025 clash:

1. Sunil Narine- The Game Changer!

At the end of 13 overs, Delhi Capitals were placed at 130 for 3 in pursuit of a 205-run target. Stand-in captain Sunil Narine then brought himself on and swiftly turned all the jubilation at the Arun Jaitley Stadium into despair. After conceding a six off the first ball, Narine had Axar Patel (43 off 23) caught at extra cover. KKR’s hope of a turnaround was boosted when Narine also had Tristan Stubbs (1) leg before with a brilliant off-break at the stumps.

The veteran then came on to bowl his fourth over and sent the well-set Faf du Plessis (62 off 45) back to the hut. Du Plessis’ wicket turned the game around completely as Delhi slipped from 136 for 3 to 146 for 6 in no time. Narine’s spell of 3 for 29 proved to be a game-changer as DC fell 14 runs short of the target. Earlier, he gave a brilliant start with the bat in the powerplay, smashing 27 off just 16 balls.

2. Why Mukesh Kumar not T Natarajan?

Barring the game against Lucknow Super Giants where Mukesh Kumar picked four wickets, the Delhi pacer hasn’t made a significant impact in the tournament. He has been backed right through the season by the DC management but with little return. The 31-year-old bowled two overs today without a wicket to his name. In the previous game against RCB, he conceded 51 without a wicket in 3.3 overs. Apart from the match against LSG, the Delhi pacer has picked just five wickets in 9 games.

This also begs the question- why hasn’t T Natarajan been given a chance thus far in the tournament?

3. Delhi’s spin trio continues to shine bright!

Due to Sunil Narine’s threat, Axar Patel didn’t bowl in the powerplay and KKR made the most of it. The pace trio of Starc, Chameera, and Mukesh were taken for the cleaners as Kolkata Knight Riders smashed 79 for 1 in first six overs- their highest powerplay score vs Delhi Capitals, this season.

However, the spinners once again pulled things back for Delhi Capitals in the middle overs. Vipraj Nigam came to bowl after the powerplay and sent Narine (27 off 16) back. Ajinkya Rahane looked flawless during his 14-ball 26 but Axar Patel had him leg-before with a slider in the eighth over. The spinners continued to pile pressure on KKR as the Delhi skipper also had Venkatesh Iyer miscue one to cover.

In his spell of four overs, Axar Patel conceded just two fours, finishing with bowling figures of 2 for 27. Kuldeep was then brought in the 11th over and he conceded just 10 off his first two overs. Kolkata Knight Riders could manage just 51/2 between 7 and 14 overs. The spin trio continues to impress this season. Both Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam also made significant contributions with the bat today, which is a big positive for the team heading ahead into the tournament.
