Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has made a massive statement on Jasprit Bumrah, stating that the Indian fast bowler might retire from Test cricket soon. Kaif questioned Bumrah’s intensity during the match. The former highlighted the lack of pace during Bumrah’s spells on day 3 of the fourth Test match and feared that he might soon retire from the longest format of the game.

“Jasprit Bumrah. Mujhe lagta hai ki aane wale Test matches mein aapko unhe khelte hue na dikhein, aur ho sakta hai woh retirement bhi le lein. Shareer se woh joojh rahe hain, dheemi ball daal rahe hain, raftaar dikhi nahi is Test match mein, aur woh khuddar bante ja rahe hain. Agar unhe lagega ki main 100% nahi de pa raha hoon, desh ke liye, main jeeta nahi paa raha, wickets nahi le paa raha hoon, toh woh khud hi mana kar denge – aisi meri feeling hai.

Mohammed Kaif highlights Bumrah’s lack of pace in 4th Test

Lauding Jasprit Bumrah’s skillset, he said that a fit Bumrah can get any batter out, be it Joe Root or Ben Stokes. Notably, Bumrah has bowled consistently between 130 and 135kmph and had only once touched the 140-mark in the entire match.

"Par jo raftaar thi – 130, 125 ki speed se ball daal rahe hain. Aur jo wicket mili – ek aage ka catch jo keeper ne liya tha – woh bhi aage dive maar kar pakda. Fit Bumrah bhai yahaan out karte hain, yahaan par keeper catch pakadta hai, itni raftaar se ball jaati hai ke batsman ko hawa bhi nahi lagti – chaahe Joe Root ho ya koi bhi.” Kaif added.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled 28 overs, giving away 95 runs, but was able to pick a solitary wicket of Jamie Smith in England’s innings. In response to 358, England piled up a mammoth 544-7, taking a first innings lead of 186 at stumps on day 3. Jasprit Bumrah was outstanding with the ball in the first and third Test of the series. He picked two five-wicket hauls and led India’s pace attack with authority. Bumrah bowled with full intensity in both the Tests but a wicketless spell in the second innings of the fourth Test match has, once again, raised questions on his fitness. It will be interesting to see how he delivers with the ball on day four.
