T20 World Cup 2026: Rinku Singh set to miss the IND vs ZIM match? Here’s the update

The Indian team is ready to play its second Super 8 match against Zimbabwe on February 26 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. However, ahead of this match, the Indian team suffered a major setback when its star batter, Rinku Singh, returned home due to a family emergency. 

According to reports, Rinku's father is currently hospitalised. He is suffering from stage-4 liver cancer and is currently on ventilator support. Rinku reached Chennai from Ahmedabad on 23 February with the team, but after receiving the news, he reached Noida to meet his family. There is no clarity yet on whether he will return to rejoin the team. The situation is being closely monitored by the team management. Some reports suggest that Rinku will soon join the squad. However, it is still difficult to say whether Rinku will play the match against Zimbabwe or not.

At the moment, Rinku Singh’s family situation remains the primary focus, and it is expected that the cricket community will help the player get through this difficult time. An official update from the team management is still awaited. 

The news of Rinku Singh's exclusion came to light when he was not seen during the net sessions while all the players, including Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and  Tilak Varma, were practising.

Rinku Singh is a very important player of the Indian cricket team, and feature a finisher batter. This World Cup hasn't been particularly impressive for Rinku Singh so far. He's managed just 24 runs in five matches, with two not-outs. He had a good chance against South Africa to reduce India's margin of defeat, but he was dismissed for 0 off his second ball while attempting a six. 

The next cricket match is very important for the Indian team. To keep their semi-final hopes alive, the Indian team must not only win the match but also by a big margin. India lost their first Super 8 match against South Africa by 76 runs. Right now, the Indian team is standing in 3rd position in the points table. Apart from winning against Zimbabwe, the Indian team are also eyeing the South Africa vs West Indies match, which will be held on the same day in the evening ahead of the India vs Zimbabwe match.
