Mohammad Kaif has strongly criticized Mohammad Amir following the latter’s controversial remarks about Indian batter Abhishek Sharma and the Indian team during the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Amir sparked widespread debate across the cricketing world after dismissing Abhishek Sharma’s batting abilities, labeling him “nothing but a slogger.” The Pakistan fast bowler also went a step further by predicting that India would fail to reach the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament. His comments quickly drew attention from fans, analysts, and former cricketers, triggering heated discussions on social media and cricket platforms.

T20 World Cup 2026: Mohammad Kaif gives the perfect answer to Mohammad Amir

Reacting to the controversy, Kaif did not hold back in his response. The former Indian cricketer suggested that Amir often makes provocative statements simply to remain relevant in public discussions. According to Kaif, such remarks are designed to generate headlines rather than contribute meaningful cricket analysis. Kaif further advised Indian fans and the cricket fraternity not to attach too much importance to these comments. He emphasized that Amir’s statements lacked proper cricketing logic and did not reflect a balanced evaluation of either Abhishek Sharma’s abilities or the overall strength of the Indian team.

"Did Amir really not know that India would reach the semifinals? Of course, he knew that the defending champions would make it. But they say these things because it becomes news. We must not give them importance. There is no need for us to come down to their level and reply," stated former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif.

Mohammad Kaif also took a sharp dig at the cricketing credentials of Mohammad Amir while responding to the controversy. Kaif reminded fans of Pakistan’s group-stage clash against the United States national cricket team in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024, a match that produced a shocking result. Referring to the tense Super Over in that game, Kaif pointed out that Amir struggled to maintain control under pressure.

The left-arm pacer ended up bowling several wides, allowing the USA batters to capitalize and gain a decisive advantage. According to Kaif, that moment exposed Amir’s inability to deliver in crucial situations. Using that example, Kaif suggested that a bowler who failed to defend a match against the United States should think twice before making bold predictions about stronger teams. He concluded that such remarks should not be taken too seriously by fans or analysts.

"The loss they faced against the USA in 2024 — it was the same bowler who was responsible. In that over, he conceded only one boundary, but bowled too many wides. His balls did not even land on the stumps. Who got scared against that USA team and made his side lose the game? I don't have to say more," Kaif added.

Pakistan national cricket team has endured a disappointing run in recent editions of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, failing to reach the semi-finals in consecutive tournaments. In the 2024 edition, Pakistan suffered an early exit after being eliminated during the group stage itself, a result that surprised many fans and analysts given the team’s reputation in the shortest format of the game. In the following edition, the Men in Green showed some improvement by progressing to the Super 8 stage. However, their campaign still fell short of expectations as they were unable to advance further and secure a place in the semi-finals.

For a team with Pakistan’s rich cricketing heritage and legacy in international cricket, such results have raised serious questions about consistency and performance in major tournaments. Pakistan has historically produced world-class players and memorable performances on the global stage. Because of that legacy, the team is widely expected to be a strong contender for the title whenever a major ICC event takes place. Many observers believe that a side with such talent and history should be regularly challenging for championships rather than struggling to progress deep into tournaments.
