The Indian team have successfully qualified for the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 by defeating England by 7 runs in the semi-final 2 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Sanju Samson's explosive 89 helped India post a mammoth total of 253/7, while England could only manage 246/7 in response. Jacob Bethell (105 off 48 balls) scored a century for England. Batsmen from both teams rained fours and sixes at the Wankhede Stadium, amassing nearly 500 runs.

The final of the T20 World Cup 2026 will be played between India and New Zealand in Ahmedabad on March 8th. New Zealand defeated South Africa by 9 wickets in the first semi-final to reach the final. Sanju Samson, who top-scored for India with 89 runs, received the Player of the Match award.

England won the toss and elected to bowl first. This decision proved to be correct when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for 9 runs in the second over of the innings.  After Abhishek's wicket fell, Ishan Kishan came to bat and, along with Sanju Samson, began scoring quickly. The two laid the foundation for India's big score with a 97-run partnership for the second wicket in just 45 balls. Ishan Kishan fell to Adil Rashid in the 10th over after scoring 39 runs off 18 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav (43 runs, 25 balls), who came in at number 4, also kept the English bowlers under pressure. Ultimately, thanks to the explosive hitting of Hardik Pandya (27 runs, 12 balls) and Tilak Verma (21 runs, 7 balls), India scored 253 runs in 20 overs. Adil Rashid and Will Jacks took two wickets each for England, while Jofra Archer also took one wicket.

Chasing the mammoth target of 254, England started hitting boundaries from the very first ball.  Phil Salt (5 runs, 3 balls) and captain Harry Brook (7 runs, 6 balls) were dismissed in the initial phase. Jos Buttler scored 25 runs, but he was struggling most of the time. Tom Banton (17), Will Jacks (35), and Sam Curran (18) supported Bethell but ultimately failed to secure a place in the final for their team. Bethell smashed 8 fours and 7 sixes in his brilliant 105-run innings.

For India, Hardik Pandya took the most wickets, with 2 wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel each took 1 wicket. Varun Chakravarthy proved to be very expensive in this match, conceding 64 runs in 4 overs. India will now face New Zealand in the final match on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
