Chennai's beloved Chinna Thala is all set to kick off a new spell in Tamil Nadu. The former Indian cricketer recently announced that he will be making his acting debut with an upcoming film down south. Raina concluded his time with the Chennai Super Kings following their 2021 title victory. However, the player, credited as "Mr. IPL," is still a staunch supporter of the five-time champions. His new stint, meanwhile, is set to elevate his bond with Chennai and Tamil Nadu another notch as he evolves from the playground to the silver screen.

Suresh Raina set to step on the silver screen with a Tamil film

Suresh Raina is all set to take a fresh guard, this time in front of the camera, as he steps into the world of cinema with his debut in a Tamil film. The movie, helmed by director Logan and produced by D Saravana Kumar, will be made under the newly established banner, Dream Knight Stories Private Limited (DKS). The formal announcement of Raina’s acting debut came during an event held in Chennai on Friday evening.

The occasion also served as the official launch of the DKS production house, with the film currently operating under the working title Production Number One. Raina, who is currently in Amsterdam, joined the launch virtually through a video call, where he opened up about his new innings in the film industry. The teaser for Raina’s debut project was first shared in a video by fellow cricketer Shivam Dube, setting off a wave of excitement. The teaser was later officially published by the production house’s social media channels.

Staying close to his roots, the upcoming movie will be centered around the game of cricket. Although details about the storyline are being kept tightly guarded, anticipation is already building among fans. As one of Indian cricket’s most adored players steps into the film arena, curiosity about his performance on the silver screen is running high. Suresh Raina talked about what made him take the decision and work in the industry.

"I think DKS has a good director and first of all when the director told me the story, it was very close to us. Then being a cricket movie, it has to start from Tamil Nadu because we have been playing a lot of matches for CSK over the years and they have a lot of love, liking and a lot of affection," Raina said.

Adding a touch of humor to the proceedings, Raina was reminded of a previous comment by Shivam Dube, when asked what kind of actor he might have been, Dube jokingly imagined himself as a romantic hero. In true CSK spirit, Raina smiled and embraced the light-hearted banter. Raina was asked the same question and he put himself in the role of a singer.

"I think I will be a very good singer. Having a guitar in my hand. Making a nice dosa for my team mates. Enjoy having rasam rice. I will be chilled out. No stress," Raina said. "He (Shivam Dube) can be a romantic actor, I can be a romantic singer. So, we can gel along."
