The IPL 2016 edition winner, Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been waiting for their second IPL title for the last 9 years. The team has reached the finals twice (2018 & 2024) but failed to clinch the title. In the last season, they didn’t qualify for the playoffs. This time, SRH will enter with a couple of fresh players in their squad.
SRH is known for its batting, and this is their biggest strength as well.

The team has explosive batsmen like Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen, who have the ability to win matches in any situation. Well, the team also acquired Liam Livingstone in the auction for 13 crore INR. Due to this, the batting lineup of the team has become even more dangerous. This team is known for making big totals. SRH holds the record for scoring five of the six highest totals in the IPL, and this team could attempt to break its own record this season. SRH's batting lineup appears to be the strongest of any IPL team. It will be very difficult for opposing bowlers to contain their batsmen.

However, despite this batting line-up, SRH failed to make a playoff berth. The biggest reason for this was the team's batsmen not clicking together and the team's inexperienced bowling attack. SRH's bowling attack consists mostly of young bowlers, except for Pat Cummins, Jaydev Unadkat, and Harshal Patel, while the responsibility of the team's all-rounder department rests on Nitishkumar Reddy and Kamindu Mendis, who are yet to prove themselves fully. The team also has Aniket Verma in the lower order, who will be responsible for finishing. Bowlers from other teams are well aware of SRH's inexperienced lower order, which forces SRH's top order to play with an extra attacking approach.

In the upcoming edition, if Sunrisers Hyderabad want to clinch their second IPL title, their batters will have to click together; otherwise, once again, the IPL 2025 story will repeat.

Apart from that, Sunrisers Hyderabad will also miss their regular skipper, Pat Cummins, in the starting phase of the tournament, who is still recovering from his injury. In his absence, Ishan Kishan will lead the side, while Abhishek Sharma will be his deputy. In Cummins’ absence, the bowling attack of the team has become more forceless. Whereas Zeeshan Ansari and Kamindu Mendis will lead the spin department, who are also not experienced bowlers.

According to the IPL 2026 first phase schedule, SRH will kick off their campaign against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, in the tournament opener. Following this, they will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on April 2. They will play their first home match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 5 at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Then, they will fly to Mullanpur to take on the Punjab Kings on April 11.
