South Africa vs Australia WTC Final 2025 squads, start date, timings, live streaming
The ICC World Test Championship (WTC Final 2025) is set to take place at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from June 11 to 15, promising an intense showdown between two of the world’s strongest Test sides—defending champions Australia and a resurgent South Africa. Cricket fans across the globe are eagerly anticipating what is expected to be a thrilling five-day battle for red-ball supremacy. Australia booked their place in the final after an impressive performance in the high-stakes Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. Their consistency throughout the WTC cycle has paid off, helping them finish second on the points table with a Percentage of Points (PCT) at 67.54. South Africa, meanwhile, sealed their berth with a commanding series win over Pakistan. Their disciplined performances in recent series lifted them to the top of the WTC standings, finishing with a PCT of 69.44.
Interestingly, India, who were leading the table earlier in the championship cycle, slipped to third place after a dip in form, ending with a PCT of 50.00—falling short of the final once again. This match carries historical weight, especially for South Africa, who are still in search of their first major ICC title in more than two decades. For Australia, it’s a golden opportunity to defend their WTC crown and reinforce their dominance in the format. With high stakes, quality players on both sides, and the grandeur of Lord’s as the backdrop, the WTC Final 2025 is all set to deliver a spectacle worthy of the occasion.
The ICC has designated June 16 as the reserve day for the World Test Championship Final 2025, which will be held at Lord’s. This additional day serves as a contingency to ensure that the full duration of play is completed in case of significant time loss during the first five scheduled days. The reserve day will allow a maximum of 330 minutes of play, which translates to 83 overs, plus the actual final hour of the game.
However, the reserve day will only be activated if the time lost during any of the five main days of the match cannot be recovered on those same days. For instance, if rain causes a delay but the lost time is fully made up later that day through extended play, then there is no net time lost and the reserve day remains unused. Conversely, if a day is completely washed out and only a portion of that lost time—say three hours—is made up over the remaining days, the net loss in playing time would necessitate the use of the reserve day.
