India’s newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill will be present at the pre-departure press conference alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir. Ahead of India’s five-match Test series against England, the duo will address the media personnel, scheduled today at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai. It will be Shubman Gill’s first press conference since being appointed India’s new Test captain. Following the retirement of Indian stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, a countrywide debate began over Rohit’s successor among Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Following a selection meeting on 24th May, the chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced Shubman Gill as the new Test captain, with Rishabh Pant as his deputy. Gill impressed one and all with his leadership skills in the recently concluded IPL season where he led the Gujarat Titans to the playoffs. GT’s season ended with a 20-run defeat to Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator clash. He now has a big task at hand as India are all set to play a five-match Test series in England, starting from 20th June. The 2nd unofficial Test between India A and India Lions will begin on the 6th of June in Northampton but Shubman Gill won’t be available for the encounter.

Where to watch Shubman Gill's Press conference:

Shubman Gill's first press conference as the Indian captain will take place today at BCCI Headquaters in Mumbai at 7:30 PM. It will be streamed live on JioHotstar app. Besides, the live broadcast will be available on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 3.

India’s England Tour Schedule:

What is Shubman Gill’s Test record so far?

Shubman Gill boasts a decent career in Tests. He has played 32 Tests and scored 1893 runs at an average of 35.05. He has hit five centuries in seven half-centuries in the longest format thus far. However, what’s disappointing is his numbers outside Asia. He has played three Tests in England thus far and has managed just 88 runs at a dismal average of 14.66. His highest score in Tests in England is 28. The upcoming tour to England will not only be a test of his leadership but his ability to bat under testing conditions on English surfaces.
