Punjab Kings star all-rounder Shashank Singh has finally broken his silence regarding allegations of assault levelled by Vipendra Singh Tomar, a former cook for his family. Tomar had filed an FIR against Shashank and his father in Bhopal on Monday, June 29, alleging assault and verbal abuse. Shashank stated that before his dismissal, Tomar had been secretly taking photos and videos of their home and sharing them with outsiders.

According to reports, Tomar—a 31-year-old native of Rewa—had started working at the Bhopal residence of Shashank’s father, retired Special DG (Police) Shailesh Singh, on June 25. The cook told the police that two days later, when he attempted to quit the job, he was assaulted, verbally abused, and had his phone snatched away. Subsequently, a case was registered against Shailesh Singh, Shashank Singh, and the family driver (identified as Mishra) under sections 296(B), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Reports indicate that a medical examination revealed injury marks on Tomar's face and body.

Reacting to the matter for the first time since the FIR was filed, Shashank accused Tomar of secretly capturing and sharing images and videos of their house. He claimed that Tomar did not even know how to cook; he would simply show up and "have a good time," which led to his dismissal. Shashank Singh remarked, "We hired him based on trust—that was our mistake. It would have been better if we had conducted a background check." He admitted that the family made a mistake by not immediately informing the police after asking Tomar to leave. He stated that there was no physical altercation and that he had no knowledge of what happened to the cook after he left the house.

According to the police at Bhopal's Ratibad station, the investigation into the FIR is currently underway. Tomar's written complaint and the medical report regarding his injuries are also being examined in detail. Shashank is part of the IPL franchise Punjab Kings. This franchise, which was the runner-up in 2025, finished in fifth place on the IPL 2026 points table.
