Rohit Sharma comes out with a massive revelation
India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma recently opened up about the heartfelt and clever way he proposed to his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. During a candid chat with former teammate Harbhajan Singh and his wife, Geeta Basra Singh, Rohit shared the memorable story behind his proposal — a mix of romance and surprise that perfectly reflected his thoughtful nature. Rohit recalled how he planned the entire evening under the pretense of a casual outing. He told Ritika that they were simply going out for ice cream, making sure she had no idea what was about to happen. However, instead of heading to an ice cream parlour, Rohit took a detour and drove her to the cricket ground where he had spent countless hours training during his childhood.
Once there, under the night sky and surrounded by memories of his early cricketing days, Rohit led Ritika to the centre of the pitch. In the quiet of that special place, he got down on one knee and proposed. The emotional moment was made even more memorable as one of Rohit’s close friends was present to discreetly capture the entire proposal on camera. The story is yet another example of Rohit’s deep-rooted connections — to both his past and his partner.
“My proposal was quite romantic. I took her to the place where I started playing cricket. We were here only (somewhere along Marine Drive apparently). She had brought food from home. We ate it. So, I was just sitting. Then I told her let’s go out to eat ice cream, I’m bored. Then we took the car out, we left. We left from Marine Drive, crossed Haji Ali, Worli. So, she asked where is the ice cream shop? She does not know anything after Bandra. I told her there's a good one in Borivali, where I live. You’ve never come, so let me show you,” Rohit Sharma said on YouTube Channel 'Who’s The Boss?'
"It was a ground and it was pitch dark and she didn’t realise it was a ground. Then I had already told my friend to set up something there at the ground and just be there to capture the moment. We parked the car. Then I went on my knees, in the middle of the pitch. Then, I proposed to her,” he added.
Rohit Sharma officially brought the curtain down on his illustrious international career across formats, starting with T20Is after guiding India to a historic title win at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup held in the West Indies and USA. The veteran opener followed up that milestone by announcing his retirement from Test cricket in May 2025, just ahead of the squad announcement for the highly anticipated Test series against England. His decision marked the end of an era in Indian cricket, with both Rohit and Virat Kohli stepping away from red-ball cricket around the same time.
In the wake of Rohit’s departure, young batting sensation Shubman Gill has taken over the reins of India’s Test team. Leading the side for the first time in a major overseas assignment, Gill made an immediate impact. In the opening Test of the five-match series at Headingley, India posted a commanding total of 471 runs in their first innings. The effort was headlined by centuries from three of India’s brightest talents — Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant — each playing crucial knocks that set the tone for the contest. The performance signaled a strong start to a new era in Indian Test cricket under Gill’s leadership.
