Since playing his first four matches in IPL 2026, Rohit Sharma has been unable to participate in a single game due to a hamstring injury. Before every Mumbai Indians match, fans' attention remains fixed on finding the answer to just one question: Is Rohit Sharma fit enough to play the upcoming fixture? During the toss in a few matches, MI skipper Hardik Pandya provided an update on Rohit's fitness, stating that Rohit might have to miss a couple more games as he is not yet entirely confident about his physical readiness.

In his absence, MI's opening pair has been constantly shuffling. While the openers delivered strong individual performances in a couple of matches, the team's overall performance has been quite dismal so far. In fact, the MI team has even lost its chances for direct qualification. The team has managed to win only 2 out of 9 matches and currently sits in the 9th spot on the points table with 4 points.

The team is set to host the Lucknow Super Giants in their next fixture, and fans' eyes are once again fixed on Rohit Sharma, wondering whether he will take the field in this do-or-die match or remain on the bench yet again. According to recent reports, Rohit Sharma himself will now make the final decision regarding whether or not he plays against LSG in a must-win contest. Reports suggest that the team management has entrusted the entire decision to Rohit Sharma—leaving it up to him to determine if he will participate in the match against LSG scheduled for Monday.

Before the match, Rohit engaged in some batting practice during the net sessions. Following that, he also performed a few fitness drills. Sunday was a travel day for the Mumbai Indians; nevertheless, Rohit underwent an extensive batting session under the supervision of Batting Coach Mahela Jayawardene, working on his technique and form. Rohit Sharma has missed five matches so far; however, considering MI's current situation, he may decide to play against LSG.

Even if the Mumbai Indians manage to win all five of their remaining matches from this point on, they can reach a maximum of 14 points—a tally that does not guarantee direct qualification. Currently, four teams (RCB, RR, SRH, & GT) in the tournament are tied at 12 points, while one team (PBKS) stands at 13 points. Given this scenario, the likelihood of any team qualifying for the playoffs with just 14 points this season is quite slim. In other words, it appears almost certain that the Mumbai Indians' wait to lift their sixth IPL title has been extended till next year.
