Former Indian cricketer, Robin Uthappa has heaped massive praise on Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan. Uthappa noted Sudharsan’s rise in Indian cricket and hailed him as one of India’s future three-format players. He recalled the incident from IPL 2024 when Sai Sudharsan was retired out for not scoring at a quick pace. One year later, the 2025 IPL season saw him finish at the top of the run charts. In 15 matches played for GT, Sai Sudharsan scored 759 runs at an average and a strike rate of 54.21 and 156.17, respectively.

"Sai Sudharsan’s rise has been incredible. Just last season, he was retired for not scoring quickly. This year, without changing his technique, he’s added smart shot selection and taken his strike rate from 130 to 170. Now he’s the Orange Cap holder. That’s mighty impressive. I genuinely believe he’s one of India’s future three-format players, right up there with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal," said Uthappa on" JioHotstar.

Amidst an outstanding IPL season, he earned his maiden Test call-up for the England tour. When asked about his Test call-up, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, however, mentioned that his selection had nothing to do with his performance in the IPL. Agarkar emphasized his eye-catching performances in his recent Ranji Trophy campaign. In four innings, he scored 304 runs at an average of 76, including a double century. Before that, he turned up for India A against England for three unofficial Tests. He amassed 221 runs at an average of 55.25.

Both Sai Sudharsan and the newly appointed captain Shubman Gill were expected to be part of the India A team for the second unofficial Test against England Lions. However, they couldn’t make in time after a hectic IPL season. With senior men such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ashwin having retired, Sai Sudharsan will have a big role to play in his maiden Test outing under challenging conditions.
