Rinku Singh opens up about his love story with politician Priya Saroj
IPL 2023 presented a young and explosive talent to Indian cricket. Rinku Singh, toiling hard in the KKR camp, finally found his moment of glory when he hit five consecutive sixes to seal a near-impossible chase against Gujarat Titans. While the starring moment came after Rinku's relentless hard work and grit, it was that night when he finally announced himself in the Indian setup. Moving ahead, Rinku locked a spot in the Indian T20I squad as another prodigy came to the fore. In the Indian cricket setup, it is almost impossible for a player to keep his way out of link-up rumors. Rinku Singh, interestingly, avoided the tirade and surprised his fans with his engagement news earlier this year.
After wrapping up IPL 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders’ star player Rinku Singh announced his engagement to Priya Saroj. Rinku's fiancée is a known politician in UP, representing the Samajwadi Party. Reports indicated that the KKR cricketer and the SP politician started dating around 2022. Now, months after announcing his engagement to Priya, Rinku has finally opened up about his relationship. It's only fitting that a modern-day love story started with a social media interaction.
Opening up about how it started, Rinku spoke about seeing a post on social media by Priya Saroj. The cricketer happened to like Saroj but was hesitant to approach the politician. However, when Priya liked some of his posts, Rinku mustered the nerve to initiate a conversation. The duo started interacting from there onwards as their bond grew.
"It started in 2022 during the COVID years when IPL was in Mumbai," Rinku said. "I had a fan page that put up a photo of Priya about some voting in her village. Priya's sister shoots photos and videos, so I think she had asked the fan page to put up a photo for help. I saw the photo and I liked her. I thought she was perfect for me. I thought about texting her, but then I thought it wouldn't be right," he added.
"She liked a couple of my photos. Then I texted her on Instagram, and that's how it all started. Then we started talking. In a week or two, we were talking regularly, talking before matches. So, I started feeling the love from 2022," Rinku said.
Priya and Rinku Singh exchanged rings on June 8 in an intimate ceremony earlier this year. Reflecting on their relationship, the cricketer mentioned that Priya’s new role as a Member of Parliament hasn’t changed things between them, although their busy schedules mean they don’t get as much time to talk as before.
"There has been no such change; it's just initially, we used to speak a lot, but now it has decreased significantly," Rinku said. "She does her work, goes to the villages, talks to people, and helps them; plus there's also the parliament, but it's important for her that she does all this groundwork as a politician... If you go to her Instagram, you'd see how much she works. She goes in the morning, comes back at night so we don't get much time to talk and only talk at night," he added.
