The city of Bengaluru was brimming with excitement as it prepared to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) historic maiden IPL title win in grand style. However, in a sudden change of plans, the much-anticipated open-top bus victory parade was cancelled due to concerns over massive traffic congestion and public safety. The decision, though disappointing for many passionate fans, was made to ensure smooth functioning of the city and avoid any untoward incidents amidst the growing crowds. RCB’s long-awaited triumph came after 18 years of relentless pursuit, as they defeated Punjab Kings in a nail-biting IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The victory marked a momentous chapter in the franchise’s history and brought immense joy to millions of loyal supporters who have stood by the team through its highs and lows. Following the win, Bengaluru erupted in celebration. Streets were filled with jubilant fans dancing with joy, waving flags, bursting crackers, and shouting chants in unison. The energy in the city was electric, reflecting the deep emotional connection between the team and its fanbase. While the parade might not take place as planned, the sense of pride and celebration in Bengaluru remains as strong as ever.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru had initially planned a grand open-bus victory parade to celebrate their historic maiden IPL title win, scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM IST on June 4. The celebratory route was set to start from the Vidhana Soudha, following the team’s meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and end at their home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. A felicitation ceremony was also arranged at the stadium, where players were expected to be honoured in front of thousands of fans.

However, just hours after the announcement, Bengaluru’s traffic police denied permission for the parade due to safety and logistical challenges. Authorities expressed concerns over managing traffic and ensuring public safety on the designated one-kilometre stretch through the heart of the city’s Central Business District (CBD). Given the expected turnout and the city’s already heavy traffic situation, the police deemed it unfeasible to hold the event. Officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) reportedly tried to work out an alternative arrangement, but the decision was ultimately made in the interest of public order. While the cancellation has disappointed many fans, the safety of citizens remains the top priority for authorities.

Following the cancellation of the open-top bus parade, RCB has announced a revised plan to celebrate their historic IPL 2025 win. The team will now be felicitated at a closed event inside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium between 5 PM and 6 PM IST. Entry will be limited strictly to those with valid tickets or passes. To minimize traffic chaos, authorities have requested attendees to use public transport, especially the Namma Metro, as parking availability around the venue is scarce. Citizens have also been advised to steer clear of the Central Business District (CBD) between 3 PM and 8 PM.
