RCB vs PBKS: Who will win the IPL 2025 trophy if the final gets washed out? Check Ahmedabad weather forecast
The grand finale of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all set to feature a thrilling clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday, June 3. The high-stakes encounter will take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, promising an electric atmosphere and edge-of-the-seat action. RCB became the first team to secure a spot in the final after a commanding win over PBKS in Qualifier 1. However, the Punjab-based side bounced back in style by defeating five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 on Sunday, earning a well-deserved place in the summit clash. With both teams eyeing their maiden IPL title, the stage is perfectly set for a gripping showdown. Fans can expect fireworks as star players from both sides go head-to-head in what promises to be a memorable conclusion to the 2025 IPL season.
Is there a reserve day for the RCB vs PBKS IPL 2025 final?
With the recent PBKS vs MI clash at Motera already affected by rain, concerns are mounting over potential weather interruptions during the much-anticipated IPL 2025 Final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Fans and organizers alike are keeping a close eye on the forecast for Tuesday, June 3. However, to ensure the smooth conduct of the grand finale, the organizers have put in place contingency plans to tackle any rain-related disruptions.
A reserve day has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, in case rain prevents play on the original match day. Furthermore, both the scheduled final and the reserve day will include an additional provision of 120 minutes of extra time to allow for delays due to rain. This buffer gives the match officials greater flexibility to complete the game before any overs start getting deducted, which will happen only if play doesn’t begin by 9:30 PM IST.
In case rain disrupts play during the IPL 2025 Final between RCB and PBKS, the match officials have set a cut-off time of 11:56 PM IST to ensure at least a five-overs-per-side contest. If weather conditions don’t allow the minimum number of overs to be bowled by then, the match will be moved to the Reserve Day, scheduled for June 4. The same rules regarding extra time and cut-off timing will apply on the Reserve Day as well, giving organizers a second opportunity to complete the match. However, if rain continues to interfere on the Reserve Day and conditions don’t permit even a five-over game, the match will be abandoned. In such a case, the final will be called off, and further decisions regarding the outcome will be based on the tournament’s existing rules. Organizers are prepared for all possibilities to ensure a fair and conclusive finish.
According to IPL rules, if no result is possible on either the scheduled Final day or the Reserve Day due to rain or other interruptions, the winner will be decided based on league stage standings. In such a scenario, the team that finished higher in the points table at the end of the league phase will be declared the IPL 2025 champion. This gives an advantage to the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings, who topped the table with 19 points after an impressive campaign. If the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru is washed out on both days and no minimum-over match is possible, PBKS would be officially crowned champions of IPL 2025. While fans will be hoping for a full match to decide the winner on the field, the rule ensures a fair conclusion in case of an uncontrollable outcome due to persistent rain.
“16.11.2 - If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner as described in Appendix F then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular season, finished in the higher position in the League table (in accordance with clause 16.10) will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match,” the playing condition law reads.
