RCB vs CSK: Only Dewald Brevis at fault for the controversial dismissal? Sehwag launches unrestrained criticism
The dismissal of Dewald Brevis in the RCB vs CSK IPL 2025 match has sparked significant uproar. The middle-order batter was dismissed for a duck as Lungi Ngidi trapped him LBW in the 17th over of the chase. The back-to-back dismissals during the tense run chase shifted momentum in favor of the home side. Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding Brevis's dismissal have divided fans. The batter was not allowed to review the decision, having reacted too late. Amid widespread debate over who was at fault, Virender Sehwag has taken a clear and one-dimensional stance on the incident.
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has held Dewald Brevis accountable for the contentious dismissal in the RCB vs CSK IPL 2025 match. The dismissal sparked debate after a moment of confusion following a questionable decision by the umpire. Brevis’s golden duck ended up costing CSK the match, despite the team taking the 214-run chase down to the wire at Chinnaswamy. Brevis was adjudged LBW and walked back for a golden duck, unable to opt for DRS due to what appeared to be confusion out in the middle.
Post-match, it came to light that Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja consumed the 15-second DRS window while attempting a run and missed the umpire’s gesture. While the timer was not present at the screens, the CSK batters looked late to take notice of the development in the field. Sehwag weighed in on the incident, squarely blaming Brevis for not reacting promptly and criticized him for running without clarity after being declared out.
"Only Brevis can tell us why he didn't take the review in time. Why was he so late? It's Brevis' fault, not the umpire's. The timer is shown on the big screen. He ran for a single and then he went for the second. Don't you know that the umpire has given you out?" Sehwag said.
"Okay, I understand it was a wrong decision. It was a blunder, it was missing the stump. The DRS is there to get rid of the howlers. As soon as the umpire gave his decision, the timer of 15 seconds started at the ground. It's okay, we didn't get to see that on the screen. Why did he take so much time?" he added.
Replays later confirmed that the delivery would have missed the stumps had the review been taken. The dismissal proved to be a pivotal moment as RCB capitalized instantly, Lungi Ngidi struck again on the very next ball, removing Ayush Mhatre for a commanding 94 off 48 balls. With two key wickets in two balls, RCB seized control of the game and held on to clinch a narrow two-run win, which propelled them to the top of the IPL 2025 points table.
