In the aftermath of the tragic stampede that unfolded outside Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB's IPL title celebration, both RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association issued a joint statement on Wednesday evening. The incident, which occurred as jubilant fans gathered in massive numbers, claimed the lives of 11 individuals and left 33 others injured. The statement conveyed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the affected families, as the city’s long-awaited celebrations turned somber.

RCB and KSCA mourn loss of lives after victory celebration turns deadly in Bengaluru

A victory parade was originally scheduled to commence from Vidhana Soudha and conclude at Chinnaswamy Stadium in the evening. However, throughout the day, uncertainty loomed over the event as Bengaluru traffic authorities raised concerns over potential disorder and reportedly withheld permission for the procession. As the RCB squad arrived at Vidhana Soudha to meet Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, disturbing news emerged from outside the stadium, where a stampede had broken out.

The overwhelming fan turnout, driven by excitement for RCB’s historic maiden IPL title win, quickly turned chaotic. The local police were unable to control the crowd, resulting in one of the darkest moments of the celebration. In its official response, RCB expressed profound grief over the incident, calling the tragedy deeply distressing. The franchise acknowledged the heartbreak experienced by the victims' families and reiterated its commitment to supporting them during this difficult time.

“We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team’s arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us," RCB stated. “RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program, and followed, the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to please stay safe,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, KSCA announced a financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for each of the bereaved families. The joint statement made it clear that while monetary aid may offer support, it cannot compensate for the irreplaceable loss of life in the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium.

“RCB - KSCA announces 5 lakhs to the families of those who have lost their loved ones. We hope this gesture can offer some support and solace in their time of grief,” the statement read. “We want to emphasize that this compensation is not intended to determine or replace the value of human life, but rather to serve as a gesture of support and solidarity during such challenging times. Thank you for your understanding and support,” it added.

Despite the grim developments outside, the scheduled felicitation ceremony inside the stadium went ahead and lasted for approximately 30 minutes. RCB players, including Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar, addressed the crowd with brief speeches, expressing gratitude for the unflinching support of the fans throughout the years. Following the ceremony, the team took a victory lap around the stadium to mark their long-awaited triumph. Just a day earlier, RCB had edged out Punjab Kings by six runs in the IPL 2025 final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, ending their 18-year pursuit of an IPL trophy.
