Virat Kohli, the star batter of the Indian team, is generally perceived as an aggressive individual on the field, whether it is his intense stare after playing a shot or his aggressive celebrations while fielding. Consequently, most people believe he is a highly aggressive person. However, former head coach Ravi Shastri recently caused a stir in the cricketing world by addressing this misconception about Kohli.

Speaking about the biggest misconception surrounding Virat Kohli, Shastri acknowledged that while the perception of him being 'arrogant' or 'headstrong' might hold some truth, that trait is confined strictly to the cricket field. Off the field, Kohli is a completely different person and possesses the remarkable ability to switch his demeanour when necessary.

Shastri worked with Kohli for several years as head coach, helping to propel the Indian team to new heights on the international stage. Both played pivotal roles in establishing the high stature Team India enjoys today; under their combined leadership as captain and head coach, India achieved immense success internationally. In a podcast, Shastri stated that...

"Arrogant. Spoiled brat. Over the top. On edge. Everything true, but on the field. Totally the opposite off it. I love people who have the ability to switch on like that and then switch off," he said.

Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri joined forces in 2017. Under their leadership, India achieved historic Test series victories against Australia on home soil in 2018 and 2021, won ODI series in South Africa and T20I series in England and New Zealand, and remained virtually unbeaten at home. The team reached the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup and played in the finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2021 World Test Championship. Team India's performance was magnificent; unfortunately, however, they could not win an ICC trophy.

Everyone is well aware of the bond between Ravi Shastri and Kohli. Last year, after Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their maiden IPL title, Virat hugged Ravi Shastri like a child and wept—a moment that truly reflects the love and respect shared between them.

Virat Kohli is currently missing the Afghanistan series due to an injury. He was seen struggling with a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final. Recently, following Kane Williamson's retirement, Kohli shared a tribute post on Twitter.

"From an opponent to a friend over the years. It's been a pleasure watching you bat and compete against you over so many years but more than that I value our friendship and shared perspectives on the game and beyond," wrote Kohli on 'X' following Williamson's decision to hang up his cricketing shoes.

"I continue to cherish every time we speak or meet. Wishing you nothing but the best always brother. You've done your bit, you deserve to enjoy all of it now and put your feet up. Well done mate, life's only just begun," Kohli added.
