The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came up with a huge positive news on Monday night as it was announced that the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be resuming from May 17, 2025. As many as 17 games will be played in a total of 6 different venues namely Delhi, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Mumbai in accordance to the revised IPL 2025 schedule. With the T20 tournament restarting, the Delhi Capitals (DC) have a great chance to qualify for the playoffs and potentially win their maiden IPL title. The Axar Patel-led DC team are currently placed at the fifth position on the IPL 2025 points table with as many as 6 victories from 11 matches. In this blog piece, we will take a look at the predicted DC playing 11 and their chances of qualifying for the IPL 2025 playoffs.

Will the Delhi Capitals qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs?

The Delhi Capitals will be resuming their Indian Premier League 2025 campaign against the Gujarat Titans (GT) scheduled to be held on 18 May, 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. They will next be facing the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 21 May, 2025. On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals will be playing their final league stage match in the T20 competition against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) scheduled to be hosted at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 24, 2025.

While talking about Delhi Capitals' chances of qualifying for the IPL 2025 playoffs, the Axar Patel-led team can reach a maximum of 19 points, if they manage to win all of their remaining three matches and that will also guarantee them a top-two finish. However, considering their realistic chances, the Delhi Capitals can reach a total of 17 points by winning two of their remaining three matches.

Amidst the escalation on the India-Pakistan borders, the BCCI were forced to suspend the Indian Premier League 2025 season for a week. In the meanwhile, many of the overseas players also returned to their respective countries. According to multiple sources, it is very much unlikely that the foreign players from Australia and South Africa will be available for the remainder of the T20 competition as both these teams will be playing the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final 2025 starting from June 11, 2025 at the Lord's.

In case, both Cricket Australia (CA) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) follow these availability criterias, it will be a huge blow for the Delhi Capitals. DC is very much likely to miss the services of their premier left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc for the remaining Indian Premier League 2025 season due to national duty. Starc has taken a total of 14 wickets from 12 matches this season at an average of 27.79. In another setback, hard-hitting batter Tristan Stubbs is also unlikely to return for the IPL 2025 resumption as he is picked in the South Africa Test squad for the WTC final 2025 against Australia.

In the absence of Stubbs, experienced players like KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis will have take the responsibility in the Delhi Capitals batting line-up. Although Starc's unavailability creates a huge void in their bowling attack, but they have the likes of T Natarajan, Mukesh Kumar, Mohit Sharma and Dushmantha Chameera. Both skipper Axar Patel and left-arm legspinner Kuldeep Yadav will be expected to pick wickets regularly in the spin department.
