Pat Cummins set to return for IPL 2026. Check details
Sunrisers Hyderabad's regular skipper, Pat Cummins, has been cleared for IPL 2026. Cummins had been set to miss the first half of IPL 2026 due to a long-standing back injury. According to a report from Cricket Australia on Thursday, April 16, Cummins has now fully recovered from his back injury and is ready to resume bowling. This comes as a major boost for Sunrisers Hyderabad fans ahead of IPL 2026. With Cummins' return, the team is set to become even stronger. According to reports,
“Pat Cummins has been given the all-clear to resume bowling without restrictions following fresh scans on his back in Sydney.”
“Cummins' latest set of scans confirmed the back stress issue that limited him to a single match of professional cricket since last August has now resolved,” it added.
Pat Cummins is expected to arrive in India on April 17. It will be quite interesting to see which match Cummins participates in. The Sunrisers Hyderabad team has played 5 matches so far, and their journey to date has been quite a roller-coaster ride. The team has won only 2 of its matches and lost 3. SRH currently sits in fourth place on the points table with 4 points.
In Cummins' absence, Ishan Kishan has been leading the team. In their opening match against RCB, the team suffered a crushing 5-wicket defeat. SRH secured their first win of the season in their second league match, defeating KKR by 65 runs; however, they subsequently lost to LSG and PBKS. In their previous match, the team made a significant leap up the points table by defeating the Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs.
Cummins had joined SRH before the commencement of the IPL season. He even travelled to Kolkata with the team for their second match. From there, he returned to Australia, where he underwent medical tests and received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Cricket Australia.
It will now be fascinating to observe how quickly Cummins regains match fitness and becomes ready to play. It is widely anticipated that Cummins will be seen taking charge of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team during the match against the Rajasthan Royals on April 25. However, before that, SRH is scheduled to play two more matches—against the Chennai Super Kings on April 19 and against the Delhi Capitals on April 21.
