Not included in the India squad for the five-match Test series against England, Sarfaraz Khan made a statement in Beckenham. The second day of India's intra-squad match at the Kent County Cricket Ground staged some interesting moments. From the visuals released by the BCCI, the players looked comfortable in the conditions and in rhythm to take on the crucial India vs England series. The opening day saw captain Shubman Gill and opening contender KL Rahul pile up respective fifties. Meanwhile, the latest update stated that it was Sarfaraz Khan headlining Day 2 with a century for India A.

India A makes India squad sweat as Sarfaraz Khan hits a ton on Day 2 of intra-squad match

Playing for India A against the India squad for the England series, Sarfaraz Khan scored a sublime 101 off 76 balls, lacing his century with 15 fours and two sixes. The 27-year-old batter warmed the bench during the Border Gavaskar Trophy before being dropped unceremoniously from the squad for the India vs England series. Now, before India takes on the main series under the new leadership of Shubman Gill, Sarfaraz has reaffirmed his ability to break back into the Indian camp. Meanwhile, further updates from Beckenham stated that Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless on Day 2.

India's most lethal weapon in the arsenal, Bumrah endured a tough outing, going wicketless and giving away runs at an economy of five. Mohammed Siraj, despite bagging two wickets, proved costly too, conceding at over seven runs an over. Prasidh Krishna also chipped in with two scalps, while Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed Abhimanyu Easwaran for 39.

India A wrapped up Day 2 at 299 for 6, still 160 runs adrift of the main India side’s total. Sai Sudharsan chipped in with a composed 38 off 60 deliveries, while Ishan Kishan played a fluent knock of 45 from 55 balls. After a duck in the first innings, Washington Sundar bounced back with a gritty 35. However, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad couldn’t get going and fell for a duck.

Played behind closed doors, the intra-squad match serves as India’s final tune-up before the main series against England. It follows two drawn unofficial Tests against the England Lions and features a blend of fringe players and senior pros such as Karun Nair, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Shardul Thakur. Meanwhile, the glimpses from Day 2 of the intra-squad match, revealed by the BCCI at the end of the day's play, showed some interesting moments. India's vice-captain Rishabh Pant emulated his iconic century celebration from IPL 2025, where he cartwheeled after finally getting runs off his bat in an otherwise disappointing season.
