Shahid Afridi has shared his views on India not playing against Pakistan in the ongoing WCL 2025 tournament. After numerous Indian cricketers withdrew their participation from the India-Pakistan clash, WCL took to ‘X’ to announce that the match had been cancelled. Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has expressed his displeasure over the decision, reiterating his belief that cricket should remain free from the influence of politics. Afridi said that India should have informed them beforehand if they did not intend to play against Pakistan.

"We are here to play cricket, and I've always said that cricket should be kept away from politics-  it should move forward. A player should be a good ambassador, not a source of embarrassment for their country," Afridi told reporters.

"We've come here to play cricket. If [India] didn’t want to play against Pakistan, they should’ve refused before coming here. But now you've arrived, even held practice sessions, and then suddenly changed everything in a single day," Afridi added.

Earlier, WCL took to their ‘X’ account to issue an apology for hurting the sentiments of many Indian fans and cricketers for scheduling the clash between India and Pakistan despite the ongoing tensions prevailing between the two nations.

“Cricket is bigger, and it's bigger than Shahid Afridi too”- Shahid Afridi

Meanwhile, Shahid Afridi has accused a member in the Indian Cricket of being responsible for the causing the tension. While not mentioning his name, Afridi called him a ‘bad egg’.

"We've come here to play cricket, to have one-on-one interactions and friendly conversations. But sometimes, there's one bad egg that spoils everything for everyone else."

“Bringing politics into it, or an Indian cricketer saying he won't play against Pakistan — then don't play, just sit out. But sport is bigger, cricket is bigger, and it's bigger than Shahid Afridi too," added Afridi. He said.

India Champions were scheduled to begin their WCL 2025 campaign against Pakistan Champions on Sunday. However, the organisers had to cancel the match following extreme public backlash. Pakistan Champions owner Kamil Khan later informed that the Pakistan will be awarded two points as it was India who withdrew from the contest.

Pakistan Champions played their first game against England Champions and won the game by five runs. India Champions, meanwhile, will play their next game against South Africa Champions on Tuesday in Northampton. India Champions is led by one of India’s greatest match-winners, Yuvraj Singh. The team also includes the likes of Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Suresh Raina, etc.
