MS Dhoni available for the CSK vs KKR IPL 2026 match? Check details

IPL 2026’s first two weeks have ended, but fans are still waiting for MS Dhoni’s first appearance on the ground. MS Dhoni is missing the tournament’s initial matches due to his calf muscle strain, which occurred ahead of the beginning of the tournament. He underwent rehabilitation in Chennai and didn't travel with the team for their away matches.

A few days ago, it was reported that he would play against KKR, but now, a couple of fresh reports indicate that he will miss this match also. According to reports, he has started his light batting practise in the nets but still does not wear gloves. Dhoni did not even participate in the throwdown sessions conducted by the CSK support staff, including Michael Hussey. Furthermore, he has not yet commenced his wicket-keeping practice. This, in a way, signals that fans eagerly awaiting Dhoni's return may have to endure an even longer wait.

However, a couple of days ago, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming stated that MS Dhoni is still hugely involved in team discussions. 

"It's just a game without him. He is still heavily involved in the side, and his influence remains very strong," Fleming said.

Chennai Super Kings have won only one match out of 4 they played so far in the tournament. They lost their first 3 matches against the Rajasthan Royals, the Punjab Kings and then the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Although they got their first victory of the season in their previous match against the Delhi Capitals, thanks to Sanju Samson's incredible century. They are currently in 9th position in the points table. After winning the IPL 2023 title, they are still waiting for their maiden playoff appearance. If CSK doesn't make it to the playoffs this time, the five-time IPL champions would have missed the playoffs three times in a row. CSK were in 5th position in the IPL 2024, while finishing bottom of the table last year. 

Chennai Super Kings will enter the field against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Both teams are currently at the bottom of the table. On one side, CSK will want to carry their winning momentum, while on the other, KKR are still waiting for their first victory. It is almost unlikely that Dhoni will play this game. He might play the next cricket match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18, before heading to the El Clásico of MI vs CSK on April 23.
