If there is one batsman who has knocked the loudest on the doors of the Indian cricket team over the past year, it is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. This 15-year-old batter proved his mettle with the bat on the global stage during the IPL 2025 season. He replicated this impressive performance while playing for the Under-19 team as well; his innings of 175 runs in just 80 balls against England in the Under-19 World Cup final demonstrated that this batsman knows how to perform on the grandest stages. This remarkable run of form has continued into the IPL 2026 season. Now, observing his current form, former England captain Michael Vaughan has called for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's selection to the Indian national team. He believes that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi deserves an opportunity in the Indian squad and should be included in the upcoming England tour.

“When will he make his Indian debut? And I'm just looking, and I know we're probably getting ahead of ourselves. It's only the first innings of the IPL, but there's a white-ball tour to England in a few months' time. And if I was Indian cricket, I would get him on that tour. Not necessarily, he's going to get into players that are in the team at the moment, but the one thing that he's going to need is he's going to need to be brought into the Indian team and the kind of surroundings of what Indian cricket is. Just bring him in, and if he plays one or two games, fantastic, but get him on a tour. Is he allowed to go on tours as a 15-year-old?” Vaughan said.

“I'd be giving him a little bit of experience with that Indian team. Not necessarily, as I said, jumping straight into the side, but just having him around. He's good enough to play. I do not doubt that,” he added.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Stats

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s first glimpse came when he opened for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025. He scored 252 runs in 7 matches of the tournament, including a 36-ball century against the Gujarat Titans and a fifty. After that, he also made his first class debut, appeared in SMAT 2025, Ranji Trophy 2025 & Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025. He also featured in the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2026. Throughout the World Cup, Vaibhav made important contributions for the team, but his best came in the final against England, when he single-handedly wrecked the opposition bowling line-up. He was the second leading run scorer of the tournament, with 439 runs in 7 innings at an average of 62.71 and a strike rate of 169.49. He smashed a century and 3 half-centuries during the event.

His form carries forward in the IPL 2026 also. Against Chennai Super Kings in the Match No. 4 of the IPL 2026, Vaibhav smashed a 16-ball fifty. Michael Vaughan praised his batting, and he said that Vaibhav totally outclassed the opposition bowling line-up. Even his batting partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal—who is considered a wonderful batsman—seemed slow in comparison to him.

“When you think he's batting with someone at the other end, who I have in the last few years, he's right up there with the best, in terms of all format players. Yashasvi Jaiswal, I think he's a wonderful player. And I'm not saying he made Jaiswal look mediocre tonight, but there was a gulf in kind of fearlessness. You could see Jaiswal looking at the ball, just trying to play. This kid's just looking at the ball to launch it into the stands. He just has remarkable freedom,” said Vaughan.

“The two innings were a contrast. You had Sooryavanshi, who just went pure modern sixes. And I respected Jaiswal, because I don't think he was seeing it as well as he could see it. So he didn't just give it away. His strike rate wasn't huge, but he's had a little bit of time in the middle,” he added.
