In a do-or-die Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) battle, the Mumbai Indians (MI) will be hosting the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 21, 2025. Ahead of the important clash, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert forecasting "heavy to very heavy rainfall" in Mumbai. Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal is very much clear that the MI vs DC IPL 2025 match will end in a washout and therefore, he has written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in order to request for a venue change, so that the crucial encounter goes ahead without any interruptions from the weather point of view.

While considering the present IPL 2025 playoffs scenarios, the game between the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals is a virtual knockout match and a must-win encounter for both the sides. Incidentally, the trio of Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have already qualified for the knockouts stage of the tournament. On the other hand, the likes of Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad have been eliminated from the race to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs.

The Mumbai Indians are currently occupying the fourth slot on the IPL 2025 points table with as many as 7 wins from 12 matches. With a total of 14 points in their kitty, the five-time champions will straightaway qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs, if they manage to beat the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday. However, in case Mumbai Indians end up losing this game, they will have to then defeat the Punjab Kings on May 26, 2025. On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals desperately need to win both of their remaining matches in order to advance to the knockouts stage of the T20 tournament.

"The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out. Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow's game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers," DC co-owner Parth Jindal wrote in his email.

Interestingly, the BCCI has already shifted the game between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to adverse weather conditions. The BCCI were forced to make the last-minute venue changes after the Bengaluru meteorological department issued a yellow alert forecasting "heavy to very heavy rainfall" from May 22.
