In an interview with Gaurav Kapur on the popular YouTube series Breakfast with Champions, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri reveals the “Ladies’ Man” of Indian cricket. Speaking candidly, Shastri shares some light-hearted insights from his time with the Indian team, offering fans a glimpse into the personalities behind the scenes. Known for his sharp wit and outspoken nature, Shastri doesn’t hold back as he names the player who, according to him, draws the most attention from female fans. The conversation takes a humorous turn, adding a fun and personal touch to the otherwise intense world of professional cricket. This moment adds to the many memorable anecdotes shared on the show, where cricketers often let their guard down and reveal stories rarely heard in public.

Why was Ravi Shastri called the Ladies' Man of Indian cricket team?

Ravi Shastri’s revelation quickly grabs the attention of fans across the country, sparking curiosity and banter among the cricket-loving audience. He is often hailed as destiny’s child in Indian cricket, having carved out a multifaceted and highly successful career. He began his journey with the Indian national team as a lower-order batsman but steadily rose through the ranks to establish himself as a reliable opening batter. His adaptability and grit made him an asset in all conditions, and his contributions as an all-rounder proved invaluable during the 1980s. Shastri’s playing career was marked by key performances and a deep understanding of the game, laying the foundation for his future roles in cricket.

Following his retirement from professional cricket, Shastri seamlessly transitioned into broadcasting, where his sharp analysis and charismatic presence quickly made him one of the most recognisable voices in the sport. However, his journey didn't stop there. He later took on the high-pressure role of head coach of the Indian national team, a tenure marked by both notable achievements and occasional controversies. Under his guidance, India scripted history by winning two back-to-back Test series in Australia — an unprecedented feat that earned him widespread acclaim.

After his coaching stint ended, Shastri returned to the commentary box, resuming his role as the familiar and authoritative voice of cricket for millions of fans. Whether behind the mic or in the dressing room, Ravi Shastri’s journey is a testament to reinvention, resilience, and an enduring love for the game. From a gritty cricketer to a celebrated coach and broadcaster, he continues to be an influential figure in the world of cricket. Ravi Shastri, never one to hold back, was refreshingly candid about his younger days and his reputation as a ladies’ man. In a light-hearted and honest moment, he acknowledged that during his playing career, he enjoyed the attention and embraced that phase of his life without hesitation. Known for his charisma both on and off the field, Shastri admitted that he lived by the mantra, “play hard and party harder.”

He balanced intense commitment to the game with an equally energetic social life, making the most of his youth and the limelight that came with being a prominent figure in Indian cricket. His charm, confidence, and flamboyance often made headlines, but he never shied away from owning that part of his personality. Even today, he looks back on those years with a smile, reflecting a man who has lived life to the fullest, both as a cricketer and as an individual.

“When God has given you things to use, you use it. It’s important you make the most of the tools you have at disposal," stated former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri.

“I have never cared about what people think. That’s the kind of a person I am. My philosophy of life is very simple. It’s not important for anyone to graduate too quickly, if your shoe size is 10, wear a 10, not an 11 or 12,” he added.

During an episode of Vikram Sathaye’s popular cricket talk show What the Duck Season 3, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara was quick to respond when asked who the current Ladies’ man in cricket is. Without missing a beat, he named Indian captain Virat Kohli, confidently stating, “Virat Kohli, yes right now, he is the Ladies’ man.” His comment was met with agreement from fellow Sri Lankan great and veteran off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who was also present on the show. The duo shared a light-hearted moment, acknowledging Kohli’s charm and popularity beyond the cricket field. Known for his charismatic presence and massive fan following, especially among female fans, Kohli has long held the image of a heartthrob in the cricketing world.
