Due to dense fog in Lucknow, the fourth Twenty20 International match between South Africa and India was cancelled, following which BCCI Executive Board Vice President Rajeev Shukla said that going forward, the cricket organisation needs to decide whether matches scheduled in North India between December 15 and January 15 can be shifted to the South or West of the country.

“The fourth T20 match had to be cancelled due to fog. People were upset about it. We will have to look at the schedule of matches from December 15 to January 15 to decide whether the matches should be transferred from North India to South or West India. Domestic matches are also being affected by the fog,” he said.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also urged Shukla to shift the winter schedule matches to South India after the India vs South Africa Twenty20 International match in Lucknow had to be cancelled due to fog on Wednesday.

"Rajeev ji, I was saying that instead of scheduling matches in North India in January, come to Kerala," Tharoor said.

In response, Shukla reiterated his earlier statement that the schedule needs to be reviewed carefully.

“The schedule of matches to be held in North India from December 15 to January 15 will have to be looked at. Kerala already gets these matches under the rotation policy,” he added.

This was the first time a night T20I match was scheduled in a 50,000-seater stadium in December, and it had to be cancelled due to fog. Now it will have the dubious distinction of being the venue for the first major international match in India to be postponed due to fog.

The Indian team currently leads the series 2-1. India won the first and third T20Is, while South Africa secured victory in the second T20I. Both teams will now meet one final time in the next cricket match of the ongoing T20I series, on December 19 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. This will be the final match of the series and tour as well, whereas Suryakumar Yadav and his team will aim to clinch the series, while South Africa will be looking to level the series at 2-2.
