Just a few hours to go and the long wait will be over as the much-awaited festival of cricket, Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) will be hitting the grandest stage. In the opening game of IPL 2025, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be locking horns with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 22 March, 2025. Incidentally, both these IPL franchises will be led by two brand new captains as Ajinkya Rahane has been appointed as the Kolkata Knight Riders captain while Rajat Patidar will captain the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions after they won their third title last year when they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the finals. With a new skipper in Ajinkya Rahane, KKR have once again picked a very balanced unit consisting of some really talented players who have the ability to win matches both with the bat and ball. Interestingly, Kolkata Knight Riders ended up losing only three matches in IPL 2024 and thus, they will be hoping to continue the winning momentum this year as well.

On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore will once again be looking for a fresh start as they retained just three players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction namely Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal. However, the owners and the RCB team management did a decent job at the auction to pick some really good players. Royal Challengers Bangalore did qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2024, but then ended up losing the Eliminator at the hands of Rajasthan Royals.

KKR vs RCB Weather forecast

In a massive news development, the weather in Kolkata does not look good on 22 March, 2025 for the IPL 2025 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. According to the latest weather forecast, there is a 75% chance of rain and this is a really bad news for the millions of cricket fans. All the excitement and curiosity will be put to rest if there will be any rain interruptions during the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match.

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore pitch report

While talking about the pitch at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, there will be assistance both for the bowlers and batters for the IPL 2025 opener. Due to the short dimensions of the ground, it will be delight for the batters of both the teams as it is expected to be a high-scoring encounter. Also, dew factor will come into play as seen over the years in Kolkata. However, there will be some assistance for the fast bowlers due to the good amount of bounce.
