Indian batter Karun Nair earned praise from the fans, following his heartfelt act on day 1 of the fifth Test match against England at the Kennington Oval. Nair refused to take the fourth run after Chris Woakes hurt his shoulder while trying to stop a boundary. Karun Nair’s thoughtful gesture upheld the spirit of Cricket. The incident occurred in the 57th over when Karun Nair timed a full delivery from Josh Tougue past the mid-off fielder. Chris Woakes ran hard to save the boundary. While he did manage to save the ball from touching the ropes, he landed awkwardly and hit his shoulder.

Karun Nair, who had already taken three runs, refused to take the fourth upon seeing Chris Woakes not able to get back up and throw the ball back due to the injury. Nair’s sportsmanship spirit received praise from fans around the globe. Meanwhile, Woakes walked off the field straightaway and didn’t come back. Following the completion of the day, Gus Atkinson said Chris Woakes could be ruled out of the final Test. Chris Woakes made a comeback in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy from an ankle injury, which he sustained in January. He has played all five Tests in the series, making decent returns with the ball.

In five matches, he has managed to pick 11 wickets at an average of 52.18.
