The course improved a bit for the Men in Blue at the Adelaide Oval. However, the performance still lagged behind the hosts as the visitors were beaten in the 2nd ODI by 2 wickets, losing the India vs Australia series. Rohit Sharma partnered with Shreyas Iyer to put up a fight after India lost two early wickets. However, the gritty half-centuries by Iyer and the former skipper eventually proved insufficient. Adam Zampa clinched a four-wicket haul, while Kuldeep Yadav watched on from the sidelines with India bent on fielding three all-rounders in the Playing XI.

Adam Zampa takes the honors as Kangaroos seal the India vs Australia series with a win in the 2nd ODI

Shubman Gill followed another toss loss with a lacklustre show with the bat as his team was asked to bat first in the 2nd ODI. The newly appointed ODI captain tried to find some rhythm as Rohit Sharma tackled the difficult conditions with composure. However, Gill landed in the hands of Mitchell Marsh at mid-off for just 9 off 9. Xavier Bartlett capitalized on the early breakthrough, dismissing Virat Kohli in the same over. Failing to open his run account in the two India vs Australia fixtures, Kohli registered his first-ever consecutive ducks in ODIs. Kohli's struggle and a parting wave in Adelaide headlined the first innings of the series decider.

However, Rohit Sharma soon snatched the limelight after his struggle ended, producing a fifty. Forging a 118-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer, the Mumbai duo stitched together a fight for the Men in Blue. While the former skipper struggled against Josh Hazlewood, Rohit showcased his signature pull shots against Adam Zampa until a half-hearted attempt ended his 73 off 97 knock in the 30th over. Added with the 61 off 77 contribution from Iyer, India managed to put a 264-run total on the board, a much better effort than the 1st ODI in Perth. The 264 total was also bolstered by the surprising yet impressive knock from Harshit Rana, as the pacer laced his unbeaten 24 off 18 with three boundaries.

For Australia, Josh Hazlewood remained the unsung hero, maintaining tight lines and lengths to pressurize the opponents but going wicketless. However, the pressure helped the likes of Xavier Bartlett and Mitchell Starc. Meanwhile, Adam Zampa, with his four-fer that included the important wickets of Iyer and Axar Patel, emerged as the star of the first innings.

The chase saw India make do with their chosen combination of three pacers and as many all-rounders. Kuldeep Yadav was dearly missed in the India vs Australia ODI at the Adelaide Oval, where Zampa made merry in the opening innings. With Mitchell Marsh departing early, another Mitch, Mitchell Owen, challenged the visitors. Matthew Short, dropped once by Mohammad Siraj, eventually made all the difference with his 74 off 78 knock. While Arshdeep Singh and Siraj struck late, it was a bit too late as Cooper Connolly saw it through, with the Kangaroos winning the 2nd ODI by two wickets.

All that remains to be seen in Sydney is the scorecard. While the India vs Australia ODI series has already slipped out of the visitors' grasp, there’s still something to take back. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Virat Kohli, with fans still awaiting a fitting comeback amid doubts over his future in international cricket. While Rohit Sharma came up with a gritty fifty, the last and final ODI down under will still be the litmus test for the ex-skipper along with Kohli. Moreover, Shubman Gill will head to Sydney in search of his maiden victory as the Indian ODI captain.
