Joe Root set to overtake Ponting, Dravid, and Kallis in an all-time Test record

India are all set to play the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 at Emirates Old Trafford ground in Manchester. The hosts are 2-1 ahead in the series and have a great chance to make it 3-1 and seal the series. One batter from England’s batting unit, who will draw a lot of attention, is their former skipper Joe Root.  The No.1 Test batter in the world, Root has a phenomenal record at this ground. He has had a mixed run in the series with the bat and would be eager to play in Manchester to add more runs to his tally. Joe Root has managed to score one century in six innings so far. He has tallied 253 runs at an average of 50.60. 

Meanwhile, Joe Root is set to own a massive record ahead of the fourth Test match. Currently, he has 13,259 runs to his name in 156 Tests. He needs only 31 runs more to go past the likes of Rahul Dravid (13,288) and Jacques Kallis (13,289) in the list of highest run-getters in Test cricket. Root is currently fifth on the list, while Dravid and Kallis sit at third and fourth spots, respectively. Australia’s former captain Ricky Ponting holds the second position with 13,378 Test runs. Joe Root can surpass him as well if he manages to score 119 runs across both innings of the Manchester Test and take the second position on the list. 

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar sits at the top of the tally with 15,921 runs. The England batter might soon take the second spot on the list, but reaching Tendulkar’s tally of runs will require more effort.
