Jasprit Bumrah calls out Mohammad Kaif for 'inaccurate' analysis, latter reacts
It's not a common sight to witness a star national player tackling a review directly. As skilled as Jasprit Bumrah is, the speedster consistently leaves the fraternity perplexed with the need for workload management. Currently playing in the Asia Cup 2025, the utilisation of the pace spearhead by the Indian set-up has caught the attention of Mohammad Kaif. The former Indian cricketer drafted an analysis of Bumrah's Asia Cup stint so far, comparing his responsibilities in the captaincy of Rohit Sharma to his role now under Suryakumar Yadav. However, instead of being challenged by the fans of Bumrah, the norm in the Indian cricket set-up, Kaif received a retort for his 'inaccurate' views from Bumrah himself.
Mohammed Kaif issues a clarification after Jasprit Bumrah terms his analysis 'inaccurate'
So far in the Asia Cup 2025, Jasprit Bumrah has yet to live up to his reputation as a match-winner. In five matches, Bumrah has managed to scalp as many wickets, conceding runs at an economy of 7.33. The India vs Pakistan Super 4 clash saw Bumrah go wicketless against the arch-rivals, leaking over 45 runs in his spell. As the Men in Blue gear up for the India vs Sri Lanka Super 4 match before taking on the Asia Cup final, Mohammad Kaif expressed his view on Bumrah's performance.
The former Indian cricketer compared Bumrah's role under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma with the current set-up under Suryakumar Yadav. Kaif highlighted Bumrah's increased responsibility in the powerplay, noting that the speedster has been bowling three overs right at the start of the innings in the Asia Cup 2025. Kaif's insight on this change was that Bumrah has opted to bowl the majority of his spell consecutively to manage injury concerns. While Kaif's tweet was phrased as a game analysis, many perceived it as a veiled jibe at Bumrah.
“Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, in the Asia Cup, he bowled a three-over spell at the start. To avoid injury, Bumrah these days prefers to bowl while his body is warmed up. One over of Bumrah in the remaining 14 overs is a huge relief for batters; against stronger teams at the World Cup, this could hurt India,” Kaif wrote.
However, hours after Kaif expressed his view, Jasprit Bumrah himself retorted to the statement. In a crisp but bold takedown of Kaif's notion, Bumrah termed it "inaccurate." This is not the first instance of Kaif making a contentious statement about Bumrah. Earlier this year, after Bumrah wrapped up the India vs England Test series, playing three out of the five Tests on the overseas tour, Kaif had suggested that Bumrah might be nearing his red-ball retirement.
“Inaccurate before, inaccurate again (thumbs up emoji)," Bumrah replied to Kaif's latest statement.
Bumrah's reply to Kaif went viral on social media within hours. The former Indian cricketer took notice and issued his response on the matter. Clarifying his earlier statement, Kaif explained that it was nothing more than a 'cricketing observation.' Furthermore, Kaif tagged himself as an admirer rather than a critic, calling Bumrah a 'match-winner.'
“Please take this as a cricketing observation from a well-wisher and an admirer. You are India cricket's biggest match-winner, and I know what it takes to give it all when on the field wearing India colours,” Kaif wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The conversation intensifies as Mohammad Kaif defends his remarks on Jasprit Bumrah. 🏏

With wins over Bangladesh and Pakistan at the Super 4 stage, the Men in Blue have already cemented their spot in the Asia Cup final. Meanwhile, for the first time in Asia Cup history, the sub-continental tournament will feature an India vs Pakistan final. Pakistan qualified for the ultimate showdown after clinching an 11-run victory over Bangladesh. However, before the proceedings move to the Sunday fixture, the Men in Blue are scheduled to play the India vs Sri Lanka match on Friday.
