Sanjiv Goenka shares his thoughts on LSG's performance in IPL 2025
Lucknow Super Giants became the fifth team to be knocked out in the IPL 2025 after Sunrisers Hyderabad handed LSG their seventh defeat of the season on Monday. With that, their slimmest hope of reaching the playoffs came to an end. Lucknow Super Giants have now failed to reach the playoffs for the second consecutive season. They roped in Rishabh Pant for a whopping INR 27 crore and made him the skipper for the 2025 season. However, a forgettable season for Pant meant Lucknow had to make an early exit.
LSG owner, Mr. Sanjiv Goenka, took to ‘X’ to share his thoughts on his team’s performance in the Indian Premier League 2025 edition. He acknowledged the team's underwhelming performance in the second half of the season but vowed to finish strongly.
Here's is the tweet:
It’s been a challenging second half of the season, but there’s much to take heart in. The spirit, the effort, and the moments of excellence give us a lot to build on. Two games remain. Let’s play with pride and finish strong. #LSGvsSRH pic.twitter.com/gFzyddlnMn

There was a glimmer of hope for LSG before the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Winning the last three games was their only shot at making the playoffs. But a six-wicket defeat over SRH crushed their dreams of progressing further into the tournament.
Lucknow Super Giants’ opening duo of Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram were instrumental in helping LSG register four wins out of their first six games. However, consistency eluded them as they went on to lose five out of their next six games. Their skipper, Rishabh Pant has proved to be their biggest flop this season. In 12 matches, he has only managed one half-century score and also made several questionable decisions as the captain of the side.
Following the defeat against SRH, Pant said injuries to the bowlers led to their team’s disappointing run in the IPL 2025 season. He also highlighted the firepower in their batting and termed that as one of the biggest positives for them.
“Definitely it could have been one of our best seasons but coming into the tournament we had a lot of gaps, injuries and as a team we decided to not talk about that, but it became difficult to fill those gaps for us.” Pant said in the post-match interview.
“We take pride in the way we played and take the positives from the season rather than the negative side. We have a strong batting line up, have enough firepower and that is the biggest positive for the season”, he added.
Lucknow Super Giants are slated to play their next game against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.
