The captain of Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, might miss their upcoming clash against Lucknow Super Giants. The skipper retired hurt at 31 off 19 in the DC vs RR match after experiencing discomfort on his side. In the latest update, RR head coach Rahul Dravid stated that Samson’s availability for the RR vs LSG IPL 2025 match depends on his scan results. The side strain issue required Samson to undergo scans after Rajasthan Royals lost the match against Delhi Capitals in the Super Over. With only two wins so far this season, RR are desperate for victories to stay in playoff contention. However, for the crucial home fixture against LSG on Saturday, the team might be without their skipper.

Sanju Samson doubtful for the RR vs LSG IPL 2025 match

During the chase in the DC vs RR IPL 2025 match, Sanju Samson appeared to be in discomfort after attempting a cut shot off the delivery by Vipraj Nigam. The team physio assessed the area around his left rib, and Samson soon walked off the field, opting not to return for the remainder of the innings. A thriller unfolded following that as the match went into a Super Over. The skipper didn't bat in the super over as Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer took the guard. Rajasthan Royals lost the match, as they now sit at the 8th spot in the IPL 2025 points table. Clearly, the RR vs LSG IPL 2025 match is a crucial fixture for the home team. 

While there is a possibility that Sanju Samson could be available for the upcoming clash, RR may choose to use him as an Impact Substitute to avoid aggravating the issue. If Samson remains unavailable or plays as an impact sub, Riyan Parag is likely to step in as stand-in skipper once more. Parag had previously captained the side in their opening three games this season. The youngster stepped in while Sanju Samson played as an impact sub, awaiting fitness clearance from the NCA for a finger injury. Ahead of the clash against Lucknow Super Giants, RR head coach Rahul Dravid talked about the condition of Samson. However, the former Indian coach didn't provide a concrete update on the captain's fitness for the fixture.

"Sanju experienced a bit of pain in the abdominal area," head coach Rahul Dravid said. "So we have gone for scans. He has done some scans today, so we are waiting for the results of those scans," he added. "And then once we get a bit more clarity around the scans and the severity of the injury, we'll take a decision going forward, and we'll see what happens," he further explained.
