In an important news development, it is still not clear whether KL Rahul will be available for Delhi Capitals' (DC) opening match in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) scheduled against his former franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) taking place on 24 March, 2025 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The Delhi Capitals failed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2024 as they finished at the sixth position on the points table with a total of 7 victories and as many defeats. However, with some big time changes in their IPL 2025 squad, Delhi Capitals will be hoping to end their dry run by winning their maiden IPL title this year. 

KL Rahul to play DC vs LSG IPL 2025 match?

The biggest update is that KL Rahul has already joined the Delhi Capitals camp in Visakhapatnam ahead of the DC vs LSG IPL 2025 match starting on Monday. However, DC captain Axar Patel has noted that he is still not sure whether the right-handed wicket-keeper batter will play the match or not. There is still a lot of undertainity regarding Rahul's availability due to some personal reasons. Delhi Capitals new head coach Hemang Badani also did not reveal much about his batting slot. 

"Obviously, he joined the team. We don't know yet [if he'll play]. Right now we don't know if he is available or not," stated Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel ahead of the game against Lucknow Super Giants. 

The last one month has worked out really well for KL Rahul as he played a vital role in India's fabulous triumph at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He contributed with some crucial knocks while finishing matches towards the end under immense pressure. While captaining the Lucknow Super Giants, the right-handed batter smashed an impressive total of 520 runs from 14 games in IPL 2024 at a strike-rate of more than 136 that included as many as four fifties. Under his captaincy, LSG qualified for the playoffs in their first two years. 

However, he wasn't retained by the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction after which the Delhi Capitals team management showed faith in India's dynamic cricketer, procuring him at a price worth INR 14 Crore. While talking about overall KL Rahul stats in IPL history, he has notched up a fine tally of 4683 runs from 132 games at a strike-rate of nearly 135 that includes 37 half-centuries and 4 hundreds. He will be eager to prove a point with the bat in this IPL 2025 season in order to earn his spot back in the Indian T20I team.
