IPL 2026: Shreyas Iyer’s sister breaks her silence over backlash for KKR post
Star Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer's sister, Shresta Iyer, suddenly grabbed headlines when a video she created went massively viral on social media. The incident occurred recently when the IPL 2026 clash between the Punjab Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders was washed out by rain, forcing both teams to settle for one point each. Before the rain arrived, KKR had lost 2 wickets for 25 runs in 3.4 overs, and PBKS had gained the upper hand in the match. However, due to the rain, the match could not resume and was subsequently abandoned.
Following the match, Shresta recorded a video in which she appeared alongside her friends. After the game was washed out, she posted a video on Instagram, and was quoted saying, “Saade Punjabiyan da dil vadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point,” which translates to “Punjabis have a big heart. Take the one point.” A statement followed by her dancing along with the group.
She is currently facing heavy trolling on social media, specifically because of these comments made in the video. However, Shresta has now broken her silence regarding the matter and has issued a clarification regarding her remarks. She said that she did not intend to offend anyone; it was simply her way of celebrating the game and supporting her brother, Shreyas.
“Guys, I don't understand why the hatred is being spread. It's just a game. The videos are just for fun, and I am here to support my brother. I will continue to do that. No hate for any team, it's just a game. Everyone should take it sportingly,” said Shresta in a video shared on Instagram Stories.
“I understand aggression. I wasn't trolling anybody. It was my way of celebration, and I am going to continue doing that. I am just here to say no hate for anybody. Only love is a game. We all should have fun. The rivalry should show, no matter what. There were no personal attacks, just chill. Peace out, guys,” she added.
Shreyas Iyer is the former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, and under his captaincy, KKR has won the IPL 2024. Despite this, KKR released him for the auction, where he was picked by the Punjab Kings for 26.75 crore INR. The brilliance of his captaincy was evident last year as well, when PBKS successfully reached the final; in contrast, the KKR team failed to even qualify for the playoffs last season, and this year too, KKR is still searching for its first victory.
