IPL 2026: PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer’s wrist injury update. Check details
Punjab Kings start their IPL 2026 campaign with a 3-wicket victory in a nail-biting thriller against the Gujarat Titans. However, during the match, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer suffered from a wrist injury. Iyer needed medical attention when Connolly's powerful drive struck his wrist at the non-strikers' end. Following this, physio came onto the ground to assess him. However, he was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna on the very next delivery that he faced.
Well, at the end, Connolly played a match-winning knock of 72 off 44, including 5 fours and 5 sixes.
With five balls remaining, Connolly helped PBKS to grab their first victory of the tournament. After the match’s conclusion, during the post-match presentation, Iyer gave an update on his injury.
"All I can say about the hand is that it is nice, the same as it was before. I do not want to jinx anything." I just want to stay positive, and hopefully everything comes out right.
He further explained that when he returned to the pavilion after getting out, he had an ice pack applied to his hand, and it was in this condition that he witnessed his team's mini-collapse. Such things happen all the time in the IPL. Our sole plan was to keep playing until the very end, and Cooper stood firm right there.
“Honestly speaking, I was focused on my hand inside, icing it and then suddenly we lost two wickets back-to-back. These things happen in the IPL and you have to remain calm and composed in such situations. So the message was pretty simple. Just take the game to the end and Cooper was there. He was pretty much set. And he's got a great awareness as a player. I've seen him in the past as well, playing for Australia. He's got a great mindset and hopefully he continues with the same form.”
Punjab Kings will face Chennai Super Kings in their next cricket match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on April 04. PBKS fans will hope that Iyer will be fit ahead of the match and will play in the match. In the IPL 2025, Shreyas Iyer & co. were runners-up of the tournament. And this time, they will want to win their maiden IPL trophy at any cost.
