Rishabh Pant has scored just 135 runs so far from 12 games in IPL 2025

IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant comes up with a mouth-shutting reply to a journalist

Rishabh Pant’s IPL 2025 campaign has been nothing short of disappointing. Acquired by the Sanjiv Goenka-owned Lucknow Super Giants for a record-breaking ₹27 crore at the IPL 2025 auction—the highest amount ever paid for a player in tournament history—Pant was expected to be a game-changer. However, the star wicketkeeper-batter endured his worst IPL season to date. In 12 matches, he managed to score only 135 runs at a dismal average of 12.27, offering little impact with the bat.

His form slump proved costly not just for him personally, but for LSG as well. With their captain and marquee signing struggling to find rhythm, the franchise failed to build momentum through the season and ultimately fell short of securing a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs. For both Pant and LSG, the season will be remembered as a missed opportunity and one that raised more questions than answers.

In the midst of this, a journalist posted on X: "Breaking News: LSG Most Likely To Release Rishabh Pant Ahead Of IPL 2026. LSG Management Feels 27 Crore Is Too Much."

"I understand fake News gives more traction To content but let's not built everything around it . Little sense  and credible news will help more rather making fake news with  agenda . Thanks have a good day . Let's be  responsible and  sensible what we put out on social media," LSG captain Rishabh Pant said in response to the post.

Lucknow Super Giants entered IPL 2025 with high hopes and sky-high expectations, especially after pulling off a major coup at the mega auction by signing Rishabh Pant for a record-breaking ₹27 crore—the highest-ever amount paid for a player in the tournament's history. Team owner Sanjiv Goenka had envisioned a title-contending side, bolstered by a power-packed batting lineup featuring the likes of Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and David Miller. On paper, LSG looked like one of the most formidable teams in the competition.

However, the performances on the field failed to match the hype. Despite moments of promise, the team struggled with inconsistency, particularly in crucial matches. Pant, their star acquisition, had a dismal campaign, and the rest of the batting unit couldn’t deliver consistently enough to carry the team through. LSG remained in the hunt for a playoff spot for much of the season, but their hopes were dashed following a defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday. The loss officially knocked them out of contention for the playoffs, marking a disappointing end to what was supposed to be a breakthrough season.
