India’s top three highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history ft. Yuvraj Singh

India are one of the most successful teams in the T20 World Cup history. After winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, they levelled with West Indies and England for the most T20 World Cup titles. India stunned the cricketing world after a young team led by MS Dhoni won the inaugural T20 World Cup edition in 2007. They put in consistent performances in subsequent editions, came extremely close in the 2014 and 2016 editions, but failed to lift their second title until 2024. 

Numerous Indian players have played some fabulous knocks in the T20 World Cup tournament but only a few have been consistent run-scorers in the marquee event. From Yuvraj Singh’s blistering knock in the 2007 T20 World Cup semi-final against Australia to Virat Kohli’s match-winning half-century against South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup, the fans have witnessed some heart-warming knocks in the tournament.

3.  Yuvraj Singh: 593 runs in 28 innings 

​One of the greatest match-winners India has ever produced, Yuvraj Singh sits third in the list of India's highest run-getters in T20 World Cup history. Yuvraj Singh's explosive hitting was one of the big reasons why India won the 2007 T20 World Cup. His knocks against England and Australia are still etched in the hearts of countless fans. Yuvraj set the stadiums alight with his six-hitting display against world-class bowlers.

He appeared in the five further editions of the marquee T20 event, with the last of those coming in 2016. ​In his T20 World Cup career, Yuvraj Singh has scored 593 runs at an average of 23.72 and a strike rate of 128. 

2. Rohit Sharma: 1220 runs in 44 innings 

The fans saw Rohit Sharma showcase his talent for the first time on the big stage in the 2007 T20 World Cup game against South Africa. The Indian youngster came to the crease when India were in all sorts of trouble at 61 for 4 in 10.3 overs. A young Rohit Sharma then joined hands with skipper MS Dhoni and took India to a position of strength. He smashed his maiden T20I half-century off just 40 balls, helping India win that game by 37 runs.

Rohit went on to play countless match-winning knocks and featured in each subsequent edition of the Men's T20 World Cup. Under his captaincy, India won the 2024 T20 World Cup. ​Rohit Sharma has, in fact, played the most number of matches in the T20 World Cup history. In 44 innings, Rohit Sharma has scored 1220 runs at an average of 34.85 and a strike rate of 133.04

​1. Virat Kohli: 1292 runs in 33 innings 

​Widely known as India's run machine, Virat Kohli has been a consistent scorer in the T20 World Cup tournaments. He was sensational in the 2014 and 2016 editions of the T20 World Cup. He topped the runs tally in both editions and also earned the 'Player of the Series' award both times. ​On a rare occasion, Kohli endured a lean run with the bat in India's victorious 2024 T20 World Cup campaign.

However, he stepped up in the most important game of the tournament. Kohli played a match-winning knock of 76 runs in 59 balls in the final against South Africa. Overall, Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup. ​In 33 innings, he has scored 1292 runs at an average and a strike rate of 58.72 and 128.81, respectively. Kohli has scored 15 half-centuries in the T20 World Cups.
