Indian Women's Cricket Team Qualifies For Los Angeles 2028 Olympics
Despite being eliminated from the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 following a defeat against the Australian women's team, the Indian team has qualified for the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. The qualification process for the 2028 Olympics involves the top six teams making the cut, with the leading team from each continent securing a spot. India succeeded in qualifying by finishing third in their group; although Sri Lanka also finished third in their respective group, India boasts a superior Net Run Rate (NRR), and the Indian women's team is currently the top-ranked Asian side in the Women's T20I rankings.
Apart from India, Australia, Great Britain (via England) and South Africa have also qualified as the highest-placed eligible finishers from Oceania, Europe and Africa respectively.
Cricket is going to make a comeback once again in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. Six teams each will participate in Men's and Women's Cricket, with the top team from each continent eligible to participate. Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania are all guaranteed representation.
As per the currently approved and published 'Future Tours Programme' (FTP) structure, five qualifying spots in each event will be confirmed based on current ICC events and ICC T20I rankings. The 6th and final spot will be contested through the ICC Olympics Qualifier in 2027. The USA, as hosts, gain direct qualification, although their rankings will play a significant role. USA must be ranked in the top 15 in the relevant ICC T20I rankings at any time during the qualification period from 30 June 2026 to 31 December 2026. If neither of the USA teams fulfils this condition, then the fifth automatic qualification spot will be given to the highest-ranked non-qualified team from any continent in the ICC T20I rankings. The qualification period for the men's team is 31 December 2026, while the qualification period for the women's team is until 1 March 2027.
