The India Champions team is set to kickstart their campaign at the World Championship of Legends on Sunday, June 20. The T20 league has brought the seasoned stars from all over the world back to cricketing action. The WCL 2025 has garnered significant audience attention, with legends like Yuvraj Singh, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Alastair Cook, and Brett Lee all featuring for their respective teams. However, as India Champions gear up to kick off the action, the team led by Yuvraj Singh has met widespread criticism.

The team has landed at the target of the nation with their opening fixture scheduled against Pakistan Champions. The latest updates from the tournament have revealed that Harbhajan Singh, along with Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan, has pulled out of the game. However, despite their decisions, the India vs Pakistan clash is still clear to launch in action at Edgbaston on Sunday.

India Champions set to kickstart WCL 2025 campaign against Pakistan Champions

India and Pakistan have never shared a relationship that could be termed 'cordial' under any circumstances. However, despite the persistent political tensions between the neighbouring nations, the countries maintained an amicable bond on the sporting front. While India has never toured Pakistan since the heinous 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, the cricket teams met each other at ICC and ACC events. Their last interaction happened at the ICC Champions Trophy, where India, the eventual champions, played all their matches in Dubai despite Pakistan being the official host.

The tides, however, turned drastically following the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in March earlier this year. Kashmir was jolted by a nefarious terrorist attack, where 26 tourists were gunned down in Pahalgam. Pakistan has long been known as the notorious harbour of terrorism, the major perpetrators behind the suffering of India. India, this time, took a firm stance against the erratic neighbours, destroying major terrorist hubs in Pakistan under 'Operation Sindoor'.

Pakistan, however, mistook the answer to terrorism as an attack on their nation, justifying India's inhibitions against the neighbours. What followed was a dangerous standoff between the forces of the nations, as Pakistan took aim at Indian citizen, unlike India, who just targeted terrorist spots. The India-Pakistan conflict marred IPL 2025, with the threat to national security suspending the tournament for over a week. While the nations reached a ceasefire, Pakistan's actions ruled out any chances of the countries maintaining any relations across any field, be it entertainment or sports.

But months following the conflict, it seems like Indian authorities are already over the memories of the showdown. India Champions are ready to set in action at WCL 2025 against Pakistan Champions. The Pakistani team is led by Shahid Afridi, who has never held back from spewing hate against India. A mere look at his social media is enough to reflect his abominable views on the neighbours. And yet, the India Champions are ready to entertain the enemies on the cricket field.

Pakistan took aim at major locations in India, severely damaging the Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir, where even civilians suffered. Whatever transpired was a signal strong enough for India to identify that Pakistan does not deserve any relations. With the nightmarish memories of the Pahalgam terror attack still fresh, playing Pakistan at WCL 2025 is a move worth criticising. However, this could very well be the restart of the cricketing ties between the nations.

Latest reports emerging about Asia Cup 2025 suggest that the India vs Pakistan clash is very well planned to set off at the group stage itself. In fact, the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup has both teams in the same group, and the India vs Pakistan match is scheduled to unfold on October 5 later this year. While the Asia Cup update is yet to be confirmed, the ignorance of national sentiments to keep providing Pakistan a stage on the sporting front demands introspection on India's part.
