The Indian team is scheduled to tour England starting July 1st for a white-ball series. However, before that, Team India will also tour Ireland for a two-match T20I series. Just a few days ago, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad, appointing Shreyas Iyer as the new T20I captain.

However, recent reports suggest that the Ireland vs. India T20I series is at risk of being suspended due to the recent riots in Belfast. According to reports, violent overnight riots in Belfast earlier this week have cast a shadow of uncertainty over the series. The unrest, which began following a local stabbing incident, forced many residents to flee their homes. Several houses and vehicles were set ablaze, leading to a complete halt of public transport services across the city.

The Irish government has not yet provided any information to Cricket Ireland. According to the governing body, they are closely monitoring the situation following the incidents in the capital of the country's northern region; this violence has also impacted domestic cricket in this part of the UK.

The Inter-Provincial T20 festival scheduled for Lisburn has already been cancelled. On Thursday, the cricket board stated that a final decision regarding the Senior Cup and National Cup matches scheduled for Sunday would be taken within 48 hours. The Irish team is set to face India in Belfast—the very city where the violence occurred—with matches scheduled for June 26 and June 28. They have issued a formal statement regarding the ongoing violence. The official statement read,

"We remain in close consultation with the relevant authorities and our provincial unions. The safety and security of players, coaches, match officials, and supporters is paramount in our deliberations. Further updates will be provided as they become available," it added.

Cricket Ireland is continuing to monitor the situation in areas currently experiencing community unrest and will make a decision within the next 48 hours regarding this Sunday's Irish Senior Cup and National Cup fixtures.

There have been no talks or public updates from the BCCI. Additionally, the BCCI is "monitoring the situation," a report claims. According to a BCCI insider, the current situation in Belfast is "closely being monitored, and if things don't improve, the matches might be moved. If this India vs Ireland series is cancelled, Shreyas Iyer's captaincy debut and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's debut could be delayed. They have both been chosen for the UK trip.

India squad for Ireland series: Shreyas Iyer (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma (VC), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohd.
