The series started ideally for England as the team claimed a 5-wicket win despite India piling on five centuries on the dead surface of Headingley. However, the conditions didn't favor the hosts at Edgbaston. India's captain, Shubman Gill, ruled the proceedings, smashing a double ton in the opening innings. Moreover, the skipper returned to score another century in the next innings of the Edgbaston Test. To ensure an all-round attack, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep showed up in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah as England didn’t get a chance to find inroads.

The young Indian team claimed a massive 336-run win to level the series 1-1, and the victory marked their first Test win at Edgbaston. As the equation now grows tougher, the conditions in England are anticipated to come alive. According to recent reports, England is preparing a green wicket for the Lord's Test, starkly in contrast to what was witnessed in the earlier fixtures.

Meanwhile, as the conditions turn lively, Jofra Archer has been named in the England Playing XI for the third Test. The speedster joined the squad ahead of the second Test in Birmingham, but his participation was not rushed by the management. However, the time has come now for Archer to finally mark his comeback to the longer format after an extended hiatus of over four years. Meanwhile, England had also named Gus Atkinson in their squad for the Lord's Test. But the management seems keen to remain patient with the prospect, who is returning from a hamstring injury.

India, meanwhile, is set to play Jasprit Bumrah at Lord's. After scalping a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the Headingley Test, Bumrah sat out of the second fixture at Edgbaston. As India wrapped up a convincing win in Birmingham, the Indian captain confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah would walk back into the combination at Lord's. The other changes for the guests, however, remain under covers. Following the impressive spell of Akash Deep at Edgbaston, it is likely that Bumrah will replace Prasidh Krishna in the Indian combination for the upcoming Test.
