The India vs Bangladesh white-ball series, originally scheduled for August has been moved up a month ahead. Reports had earlier surfaced suggesting that Indiaโs participation was in doubt following an advisory from the Indian government. The report suggested that the Indian government recommended against proceeding with the tour due to ongoing diplomatic unease. The growing strain in bilateral relations had cast a cloud of uncertainty over the series for several weeks.
Despite the political backdrop, the BCCI clarified that the deferment was ultimately made after evaluating both sidesโ international commitments and calendar limitations. The Indian board further emphasized that logistical feasibility played a key role in the final call. The earlier report also talked about the BCB not initiating the procedure of deciding the broadcasters for the series. With Bangladesh series being postponed to September, it is yet to see if Asia Cup remains a part of India upcoming matches. The ACC tournament is reportedly set to take off in September as well, with the India vs Pakistan clash also on cards.
"This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course," said BCCI in a media release.
India and Bangladesh last met on the field during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, where India secured a comfortable six-wicket victory. Prior to that, they faced off in a bilateral contest in 2024 on Indian soil, a tour that featured two Test matches and three T20Is, all of which India won convincingly with 2-0 and 3-0 scorelines respectively. However, matters escalated swiftly after that, with India and Pakistan nearly going to war. Moreover, the domestic political unrest in Bangladesh also cast a shadow over the series. A source had earlier indicated that the India tour of Bangladesh was heading for cancellation due to the unrest in the neighbouring nation.
"The political situation in Bangladesh is not stable, and in light of the diplomatic standoff, the Indian government has advised the BCCI not to go ahead with this tour," the source had said earlier.
