India is set to host the 2025 Asia Cup in the T20 format, while the 2027 edition of the tournament will be hosted by Bangladesh in the 50-over format. The Asian Cricket Council released the Invitation to Expression of Interest document on Saturday. The document further stated that five teams, namely India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, will play in the tournament, with the sixth team to be decided through a qualifying event. The tournament will feature the six teams playing across 13 matches in the respective formats. The schedule has not been finalized yet; however, the Council has predicted it to be lined up around September 2025.

ACC Lines Up The 2025 Asia Cup In India

The document released by the Jay Shah-headed ACC has invited interested parties to submit their IEOI for the sponsorship rights of the tournament from 2024 to 2027. The 2023 Asia Cup was co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the 50-over format. The final featured home team Sri Lanka going against India. The match concluded swiftly as India emerged as Asia Champions with a win by 10 wickets over the hosts. Now, with the next ICC championship being the 2026 T20 World Cup, the ACC has planned for the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup to be played in the shortest format of the game. Meanwhile, the 2027 Asia Cup will be held in Bangladesh and will follow the 50-over format.

Currently, Team India is facing a packed schedule as per the ICC Future Tours Program 2023-2027. The team will be playing a limited-overs series with England in January before heading for the Champions Trophy scheduled for February-March. Subsequently, India will tour England after concluding the IPL at home. Next up, the team will lock horns with Bangladesh in an away series consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is around August. Thus, the 2025 Asia Cup is anticipated to unfold after August, mainly after India lets the monsoon season end before the tournament commences.

2026 won’t have any Asian Championships lined up for the Men’s team, but the Indian women’s team will play the Asia Cup in the T20 format. Moreover, the Men’s U-19 and Emerging Teams Asia Cup are scheduled for 2026 following the Women’s Asia Cup. No information has yet been provided by the ACC about the possible venues for the 2025 and 2027 Asia Cup.
