Before India kicks off the next WTC Cycle with the India Tour of England, India A will stage the set for the series. The India Tour of England, featuring five Tests, will take off on June 20. However, the action on the England tour will start well before that, with India A taking on the England Lions. The Indian Test setup is poised for a significant transition in the upcoming WTC Cycle. The seasoned domestic and India A pick, Abhimanyu Easwaran, will lead the squad on the England tour. Moreover, wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel is named as his deputy for the series.

The retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have marked the end of an era for the team. The charge now comes down to the younger lot, with the BCCI yet to announce India's new Test captain. Meanwhile, spots are open in the batting order for players to grab in the main team, amplifying the significance of the India A series.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sarfaraz Khan have been named in the squad. As reported earlier, Karun Nair and Shardul Thakur have been rewarded for their glorious run in the recently concluded domestic season. The players whose teams have been eliminated from the IPL 2025 playoffs race, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, form the core of the India A squad.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, the frontrunner to be named India's next Test captain, will join the India A squad ahead of the second match. Ishan Kishan has been named as the second wicketkeeping prospect. The bowling department features Anshul Kamboj, Harshit Rana, and Khaleel Ahmed in the pace unit. The seam lineup further deepens with the names of Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar, and Tushar Deshpande. Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy has also been named in the squad alongside Shardul Thakur as the pace all-round option.

India A is set to begin its red-ball campaign in England with two four-day matches against the England Lions, scheduled to kick off on May 30 in Canterbury. In addition to these fixtures, the squad will also participate in an intra-squad match, which is slated to begin on June 13 in Beckenham.
